PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Dominic Vea (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bilo Sagdiyev (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bilo Sagdiyev told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Dominic Vea! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Bilo Sagdiyev! The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Dillan Fox and Steve Smith.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Vea avoids a punch combination nicely.
Vea stuffs the takedown attempt from Sagdiyev. Sagdiyev gets slowly back to his feet. Sagdiyev tries to clinch but Vea is having none of it. Vea ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Sagdiyev moves away. Vea stuffs the takedown. Sagdiyev gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there. Sagdiyev uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Vea. Vea lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head. Vea throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Vea swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Sagdiyev counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Vea! The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Sagdiyev misses with a head shot. Vea working to try and regain half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Vea holds of for dear life. Vea working to try and regain half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Vea really wants to buck Sagdiyev off and get back to his feet. Vea tries to lock up and control but Sagdiyev gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Vea sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Vea is trying to stand up here but Sagdiyev is controlling him well. Vea is controlling Sagdiyev's trapped leg to prevent Sagdiyev from advancing to side control. Sagdiyev is trying to control. Vea wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. Vea is controlling Sagdiyev's position as best he can from this difficult position. Sagdiyev trying to control the action but Vea is working from the bottom.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Vea is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment. Vea pushes Sagdiyev off and gets back to his feet. Sagdiyev gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Sagdiyev throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Vea's waist but Vea gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Sagdiyev off to one side. Dominic Vea has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Bilo Sagdiyev. Sagdiyev looks gassed! Sagdiyev misses with a takedown attempt - Vea sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. A big right from Vea misses. Vea ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Sagdiyev moves away. Vea takes a swing at Sagdiyev's ribcage but misses. Sagdiyev throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Vea jabbing away but nothing is landing.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Sagdiyev shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Vea as he avoids it easily. Sagdiyev uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Vea.
Vea throws a jab but it's blocked by Sagdiyev. Vea misses with an uppercut. Sagdiyev saw that one coming. Vea jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Sagdiyev tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Vea steps into range and cracks Sagdiyev with a monster punch that buckles his knees! Sagdiyev flops backwards and Vea dives into his guard looking to finish!
Sagdiyev is rocked! We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Sagdiyev can do anything to dispel that myth. Vea controls from within his opponent's guard. Sagdiyev is still in real trouble! Can Vea finish him? Vea is pushing down on Sagdiyev's leg trying to pass to half guard. Sagdiyev is fighting to maintain full guard but Vea has managed to sneak the leg through. Sagdiyev seems to have recovered his senses. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Vea postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Sagdiyev to stand up. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Dominic Vea dominated that round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Vea cracks Sagdiyev with a big right hand that sends him crashing to the floor. Vea has the opportunity to follow him to the ground but instead he's beckoning Sagdiyev to stand back up!
Sagdiyev is rocked! Sagdiyev keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Vea misses with an uppercut. Sagdiyev saw that one coming. Sagdiyev displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Vea throws out the jab. Sagdiyev looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Vea is fending him off so far but Sagdiyev persists. Nope, Vea circles away and we're back to standing. Sagdiyev shoots for a double leg takedown but Vea sprawls well. He's pushed Sagdiyev's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Vea is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Sagdiyev. Vea has not gone for a single takedown so far in this fight, which seems like a very strange tactic when you consider that he has the superior wrestling and BJJ. Vea misses with an uppercut. Vea scores with the left hand. Sagdiyev knows he should have avoided that one. Vea throws a body punch but Sagdiyev moves out of range. Vea lands with a nice body punch. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Vea lands a big uppercut and Sagdiyev crumbles to the floor! The ref thinks about stopping the fight but Sagdiyev looks OK. Vea waves Sagdiyev back to his feet! Sagdiyev is still on wobbly legs! Can Vea finish him? Vea lands a big uppercut and this one is all over! His foe lies motionless on the canvas - a massive one punch knockout!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:55 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Dominic Vea!
