PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Vertti Ekstrovertti (ranked 1062 p4p, 1090 weight class) and Patrick River (ranked 143 p4p, 149 weight class). River has chosen Pantera - Walk as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 26 - 20 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, Vertti Ekstrovertti!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Patrick River!
The judges for this bout are James Atkins, Richard Clark and Colin Fotheringham.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ekstrovertti fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. River looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Ekstrovertti throws a lazy body kick
and River counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Ekstrovertti is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by River.
Ekstrovertti blocks a leg kick.

River clinches with his opponent.

River has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
River pivots, looking for a leg kick but Ekstrovertti is out of range and River settles back down.
River throws a nice inside leg kick.
River scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
River lands a jab to the head.
Ekstrovertti throws an overhand right that lands on River's shoulder, as River tries to avoid the shot.
River gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Ekstrovertti throws a body punch but River moves out of range.

Ekstrovertti sets himself, and River steps forward looking for the clinch! Ekstrovertti avoids it this time.

River throws a leg kick but Ekstrovertti sees it coming and checks it nicely.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Ekstrovertti seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but River does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
River is refusing to be controlled, as Ekstrovertti sits in half guard.

Ekstrovertti closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Ekstrovertti looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
River is trying to control but can't.
River is looking for a sweep. Ekstrovertti is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Ekstrovertti lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Ekstrovertti seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

River gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.

Ekstrovertti is looking to advance position but River won't allow it.
Ekstrovertti missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Ekstrovertti is looking to take a break and control but River is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Ekstrovertti wants to work for an arm triangle but River is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Ekstrovertti lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Patrick River has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Ekstrovertti stalling away here and it's allowed River to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.

Ekstrovertti got a little sloppy there for a moment and River has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Ekstrovertti has managed to get both his arms back between River's legs - danger averted.

River is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

River is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Ekstrovertti defends well.
River is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
