PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Travis Mitchell (ranked 289 p4p, 395 weight class) and Jarred Reich (ranked 40 p4p, 52 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 22 - 15 - 2, fighting out of London, Travis Mitchell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 20 - 12 - 3, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jarred Reich!
The judges for this bout are James Ackerman, Richard Clark and Sam Margolis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Reich shoots for a double leg takedown but Mitchell sprawls well. He's pushed Reich's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Mitchell attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.
Mitchell throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Reich.
We've been informed that Reich has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result.
Mitchell leaves Reich with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Mitchell scoring well with a low kick there.
Reich moves in looking to clinch but Mitchell pushes him off.
Mitchell swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Reich looks like he wanted to counter with a high kick but didn't throw it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mitchell keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Reich has decided to stand back up but his arm is trapped. Whilst he's worrying about his arm, Mitchell works to full guard.

Reich wants to stand and escape but instead Mitchell has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Mitchell is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Reich avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Reich tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Mitchell is working Reich over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Mitchell is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.

Mitchell stands and throws Reich's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Reich wants to control but Mitchell postures up.
A lull in the action here as Mitchell stalls from top position.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Reich is not content to let Mitchell control the position.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Reich can do anything to dispel that myth.
Reich is looking to reverse the position.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Reich shoots in but no luck this time.
Reich shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Mitchell pinned against the cage. Mitchell gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Reich tries to close the distance and clinch up but Mitchell swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Reich slips a straight right by Mitchell.
Reich throws a leg kick which misses Mitchell's front leg but catches the back leg as Mitchell tries to avoid it.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Reich dives in and grabs Mitchell's left leg, looking for a takedown. Mitchell pushes down on Reich's head and hops out.
Travis Mitchell has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jarred Reich.
Reich shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Mitchell as he jumps to the side.
Mitchell is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Reich can do to turn this around?
Reich looks to clinch
and Mitchell counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

It looks like Jarred Reich has been cut.

Mitchell gets caught flat footed, as Reich shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Mitchell is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Mitchell drops an elbow to the side of Reich's head.

Mitchell is keen to just control but Reich is a slippery customer.
Reich pushes Mitchell off looking to stand but Mitchell dives back in and keeps control.
Reich tries to get to full guard but Mitchell has control of the leg.
Mitchell is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Mitchell is nestled in close to Reich, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Mitchell slips a nice elbow through Reich's hands, connecting with Reich's forehead.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Mitchell connects with a nice short shot to Reich's temple.
Mitchell lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mitchell throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Reich has hold of Mitchell's hands but Mitchell slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Reich has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Mitchell is working away from the top position though.

Mitchell winds up and cracks Reich with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

Mitchell has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Mitchell lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Mitchell working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Mitchell looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Reich with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Reich is looking to control Mitchell's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Reich avoid being mounted?
Reich really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Mitchell. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Reich pushes Mitchell off but Mitchell dives into side control.

Reich is not in a great position here, taking some shots.
Mitchell is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Reich will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.

Reich is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Mitchell asserts his dominance and retains side control.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Mitchell cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Reich tries to hold on but Mitchell pushes him away.

Mitchell tries to control but Reich wriggling away.
BOOM! Mitchell connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Mitchell wants to control the pace but Reich is squirming around nicely.
Reich is looking to get to half guard.
Mitchell postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Reich looks a forlorn figure.
Reich wants to hold on but Mitchell pushes him away.

Travis Mitchell is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Mitchell tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Reich is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Mitchell has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Jarred Reich has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Reich throwing hammer fists to the chest of Mitchell. What's that going to do exactly?

Well Mitchell has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
