PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Mareth Line (ranked 3827 p4p, 3411 weight class) and Kris Porzingis (ranked 481 p4p, 444 weight class). Line comes to the cage accompanied by For Heavy Metal we will die!. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Mareth Line!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Kris Porzingis!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, George Francis and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Line leaves Porzingis with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Line looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Porzingis wants to clinch up but Line keeps it at a distance.
Line was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
Line lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Porzingis at a distance.
Porzingis staying out of range there.
Porzingis shoots in for a takedown but Line shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Porzingis shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Line is trying to defend but Porzingis finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Line makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Line.

Porzingis drops back looking for a leg! Line is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Line manages to kick Porzingis off! Porzingis jumps back into Line's guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Line working for a triangle but Porzingis defends it easily.

Line escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Porzingis gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Line wants to sweep but no luck.
Porzingis throws a big elbow that misses.

Porzingis drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Porzingis jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Porzingis thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Porzingis is looking to pass into half guard but Line pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Line is in guard.

Porzingis is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Line has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Porzingis is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Line trying to control the position from guard on top but Porzingis is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Line is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Porzingis is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Line might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Porzingis is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Line works Porzingis's body with a nice hook.
Porzingis misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Mareth Line has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kris Porzingis.
Porzingis throws out a loose jab but Line uses good head movement to avoid it.
Porzingis is trying hard to land a takedown here. Line sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Porzingis misses with a wild combination.

Porzingis drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Line lunges at Porzingis with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Porzingis's hand.
Porzingis walks into a left hand.
Line fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
Line dips to his left and cracks Porzingis with an uppercut!
Porzingis walks into a stiff left hand from Line.
Porzingis is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Line throws a big shot that misses.
Porzingis wants to counter the offense by Line and move into the clinch position.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Line, as that shot connected.
Porzingis moves in looking to clinch but Line pushes him off.
Line misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

Porzingis drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Line lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Line trying to control the position from guard on top but Porzingis is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mareth Line dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Porzingis is trying hard to land a takedown here. Line sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Line connects with a body shot that sends Porzingis's belly button to the back.
Mareth Line is winning the standup battle so far.
Porzingis looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Line bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Porzingis's head backwards.
Line waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Porzingis.
Porzingis wants to counter with a clinch but Line pushes him away.
Line keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Line lands with an uppercut that bounces Porzingis off the cage and back into range.
Line loads up on a big right hand but Porzingis slips the punch.

Porzingis gets a takedown into half guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Porzingis is keen to just control but Line is a slippery customer.
Line is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Porzingis is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Line doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Porzingis.
Kris Porzingis has got the better of the ground game so far.

Porzingis moves into side control, avoiding a weak kimura attempt from Line.

Line looking for a sweep but Porzingis has passed into full mount! Oh no!
Line regains half guard.
Line wants to improve his position but Porzingis is controlling well.
Line wants to control but Porzingis is keeping busy.
Porzingis tries to pass to full mount but Line defends it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Porzingis is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Line defends it well.
Line tries to roll over but Porzingis keeps him under control.
Line gets back to full guard.
Porzingis trying to control but Line is working from the bottom.
Porzingis trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Line controls Porzingis momentarily but Porzingis frees himself.
Line looking for a sweep. Not yet Line, not yet.

Porzingis is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Line looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Porzingis looking to sit in guard and control but Line gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Porzingis bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Line's guard.

Line keeping moving, preventing Porzingis from controlling successfully.

Line had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Porzingis defends it easily.

Line looking for a sweep. Not yet Line, not yet.
Line is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Porzingis can do to turn this around?

Line is looking for a triangle but Porzingis pushes his legs off easily.
Porzingis engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Porzingis won't allow Line to sweep him here.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Line working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Porzingis doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Porzingis manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

That was a close second round but I would say that Mareth Line will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Porzingis takes one to the side of the head.

Porzingis manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Line on his heels. He'll look to pass Line's guard now, I'm sure.

Porzingis frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Porzingis prevents Line from getting the reversal.
Porzingis looking to control but Line is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Line tries to lock up and control but Porzingis gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Porzingis takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Line tries to hold on but Porzingis pushes him away.
Porzingis can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Line is looking to escape.
Kris Porzingis has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Line sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
Line is staying active underneath Porzingis, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Porzingis is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Line sees it coming and defends easily.

Kris Porzingis comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Line has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

After the fight, Mareth Line was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
