The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Bruno Hogan and Damien Edna.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Smile tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Cross manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Horrible takedown attempt by Smile or perhaps it was just good defense by Cross, which made it look bad.
Cross ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Smile moves away.
Smile shoots in for a takedown but Cross shows good takedown defense.
Smile tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

and Cross counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Jeremy Cross has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Sean Smile.
Smile shoots for a double leg takedown but Cross sprawls well. He's pushed Smile's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Cross moves into the clinch.
Cross is looking for a takedown.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Smile on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.

Cross breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Cross leaves Smile with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Cross shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Smile but Smile pushes him off and we're back to square one.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Smile misses with a double jab

and Cross counters by clinching up.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.
Smile has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Cross avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Cross is working for takedown but Smile is calmly controlling the position for now.

Cross has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Smile uses from the top position.

Cross looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Smile has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Cross is proving hard to escape from.

Cross working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Smile doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Smile manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Smile controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Smile wanted to stand there but Cross had control of the position.

Well Cross has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
