This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the bantamweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of New York, with a TWGC record of 8 wins and 7 losses; Thad Thayer! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Sydney, with a TWGC record of 11 wins and 11 losses; Felipe Feltre! The judges for this bout are Percy O'Donnell, Frank Antenori and Jack Bonds.
The official calls the fighters to the middle and the contest is under way. Feltre fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Thayer to the ground. Feltre is now in Thayer's guard. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Thayer (0) vs (2) Feltre Feltre drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Feltre jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Thayer throws his legs up looking for a submission but Feltre uses it to pass to side control.
Score +3 for passing guard: Thayer (0) vs (5) Feltre Feltre working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Feltre tries for a kimura but Thayer is defending well. Thayer wants to control but Feltre postures up. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Feltre works to advance to full mount. Thayer defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs. Score +2 for reaching mount: Thayer (0) vs (7) Feltre
That's one minute gone in the round. Thayer stops Feltre from taking his back. Still, being mounted isn't any better. Feltre goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Thayer is on top in guard.
Score +2 for sweep to guard / half guard: Thayer (2) vs (7) Feltre Feltre is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Thayer is aware though and is defending well. Feltre is trying to control the position but Thayer postures up. Feltre has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Thayer can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves. Thayer has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Feltre to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Thayer is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Feltre pulls down on the head and he's put Thayer to sleep! This one is all over!

Felipe Feltre decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way. |
