PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Alika Hakekia (ranked 5013 p4p, 2837 weight class) and Conor OMalley (ranked 570 p4p, 398 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Alika Hakekia!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 16 - 0, fighting out of London, Conor OMalley!
The judges for this bout are Ren Mimura, Hirohito Nitta and Shigeki Sano.

Hakekia moves in looking to clinch but OMalley pushes him off.

OMalley felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
Hakekia is keen to just control but OMalley is a slippery customer.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
OMalley tries to score a power double leg takedown but Hakekia sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten OMalley somewhat.
Horrible takedown attempt by OMalley or perhaps it was just good defense by Hakekia, which made it look bad.
Hakekia swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
Hakekia dives in and grabs OMalley's left leg, looking for a takedown. OMalley pushes down on Hakekia's head and hops out.
OMalley tries to counter with a clinch but Hakekia shakes him off and moves away.

It looked like Hakekia was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.

OMalley is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.

Hakekia looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Alika Hakekia has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Conor OMalley.

Hakekia clinches.

OMalley ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. OMalley no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Hakekia changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. OMalley tries to avoid it but Hakekia manages to keep hold of a leg and drag OMalley to the ground. OMalley escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

OMalley shoots in and drives through. Hakekia sprawls well.
Hakekia shoots in looking for a takedown but OMalley manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Hakekia's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
OMalley stuffs the takedown attempt from Hakekia. Hakekia gets slowly back to his feet.

Conor OMalley seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
OMalley swats away the attempt to clinch by Hakekia.
OMalley lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Hakekia backs up against the cage.

It looks like Alika Hakekia has been cut.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
OMalley shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Hakekia but Hakekia pushes him off and we're back to square one.

OMalley escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Hakekia gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

OMalley seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Hakekia does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

OMalley seems to be looking for submissions.

OMalley is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Hakekia sees it coming and defends easily.

OMalley has control of Hakekia's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Hakekia regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Conor OMalley really struggled to get his t-shirt on before his hand was raised. Making sure that Brooklyn Apothecary logo gets some air time is pretty tricky when you're all sweaty.
