PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Morris Day (ranked 4000 p4p, 2741 weight class) and Miguel Machin (ranked 375 p4p, 287 weight class). Machin has chosen Pandora's Music Box as his entrance music. Man, I cannot wait for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 8 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Morris Day!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 15 - 0, fighting out of London, Miguel Machin!
The judges for this bout are Tatsuya Matsuyama, Sosuke Kotani and Yasuomi Hirokawa.

Day dives in and grabs Machin's left leg, looking for a takedown. Machin pushes down on Day's head and hops out.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Machin tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Day paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Nice sprawl there from Machin as Day shoots in.
Day shoots in for a double leg but Machin sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Machin is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Machin looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Machin seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

Day throws an elbow that misses. Machin uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Day's guard. Nice move by Machin!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Machin wants to pass the guard but Day is keeping the position.

Day escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Machin gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Day is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Machin is aware though and is defending well.

Day has his foot on Machin's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Machin works his way back into a safe position though.

Day is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Machin defends well.
Machin stands and throws Day's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Machin is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Day is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Day tries to improve position but can't.

Machin working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Morris Day dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Day takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Day misses with a takedown attempt - Machin sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Machin looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Machin throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Machin misses with a series of wild punches.
Day tries to counter with a takedown but Machin is quick to defend against it.
Machin has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Day is landing a low percentage of strikes.
Day shoots in for a takedown but Machin shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Machin drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Machin engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

Day is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a triangle but Machin frees his head nicely. Oh but Day has switched to an armbar! Machin is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!
