PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Joel Kangas (ranked 5117 p4p, 3697 weight class) and Joel Miller (ranked 530 p4p, 438 weight class). Miller is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Alone and Forsaken. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Kangas instigates a clinch.
Miller tries to work over Kangas's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Miller throws a punch but it's blocked by Kangas.
Miller working some nice short punches in the clinch.
Miller pushes Kangas back against the cage and unloads with a body punch.
Miller tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Kangas's elbow.
Miller lands a body punch - he's looking to wear down Kangas.

Miller stays in close to his opponent and throws a right hand to the body.

With the fighters clinched against the cage, Miller creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.

Kangas breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Miller tries to throw a body punch but Kangas avoids it by throwing Miller back against the cage.

Miller moves into range and connects with a jab.
Kangas takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Miller connects with a body shot.
Kangas moves forwards but Miller connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Miller lands a nice shot to the body.

Kangas darts in trying to clinch
and Miller counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Kangas takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.

It looks like Joel Kangas has been cut.

Miller lands a glancing blow to the side of Kangas's head.
Miller dips to his left and cracks Kangas with an uppercut!
Miller takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Miller throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Kangas takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Miller has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Kangas is landing a low percentage of strikes.
Nice jab there from Miller.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Miller stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Miller fakes a right and follows up with a big left that drops Kangas to one knee - oooooh, he's wobbly! Kangas looks to clinch but Miller throws him off and pummels him into the canvas! Kangas taps out under the strikes! The fight is over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:38 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Strikes). Joel Miller!
In his post fight interview, Joel Miller started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
