Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jeffery Berwick (ranked 1530 p4p, 2551 weight class) and Chief Zapata (ranked 231 p4p, 370 weight class). Chief Zapata will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jeffery Berwick! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 4 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Chief Zapata! The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Don Winkell and Frank Antenori.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Zapata lands a really nice looking cross but Berwick seems unphased.
Berwick forces Zapata back against the cage and clinches. Zapata has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Berwick avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch. Zapata wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Berwick has him pressed against the cage. With the two fighters working up against the cage, Zapata just misses with a elbow thrown towards Berwick's brow. Berwick is working for takedown but Zapata is calmly controlling the position for now. Zapata is trying to maintain a safe position but Berwick gets an underhook and turns Zapata into the cage. Berwick goes for a takedown attempt but Zapata pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Jeffery Berwick seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Berwick moves into range and clinches up with Zapata. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Zapata looking to slow down the pace here. Zapata is trying to maintain a safe position but Berwick gets an underhook and turns Zapata into the cage.

Berwick has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Zapata has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Berwick can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Berwick working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Zapata's head. Berwick is working the ground and pound from guard. Berwick keeps the fight on the outside. Berwick forces Zapata back against the cage and clinches. Zapata tries to pull guard but Berwick forces him back to his feet, against the cage. Zapata gets underhooks to prevent Berwick's takedown attempt.
Berwick manages to break the clinch.
Zapata looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it. An attempted straight right counter from Berwick misses the target. Berwick has taken the fight to the clinch.
Zapata wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes. Berwick lands a couple of decent looking shots. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Berwick throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
