This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the heavyweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of New York, with a TWGC record of 14 wins and 7 losses; Harry Hirsch! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 5 wins and 2 losses; Karelin Pripyat!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Timothy Bukovac and Percy O'Donnell.


The official calls the fighters to the middle and the contest is under way.

Pripyat shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Pripyat was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Hirsch is not content to let Pripyat control the position.
Hirsch's coaches at SSJ Gym have been working on his defensive grappling in preparation for this fight so let's see if he can get out of this tricky position.
Hirsch is looking for a sweep.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Pripyat tries to advance to mount but can't.
Hirsch gets back to half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Pripyat takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Pripyat uses his free foot to push down on Hirsch's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Hirsch.

Hirsch is desperately trying to improve his position but Pripyat has a good base and remains in mount.
Pripyat tries to control but Hirsch wriggling away.
Hirsch has given up his back - I don’t know if this is a deliberate ploy to try and escape or if he is just struggling down there.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

Pripyat has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Hirsch has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!

Pripyat looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.

Pripyat defends a prolonged rear naked choke attempt and turns nicely into his opponent's guard.

Pripyat is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
Pripyat might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Hirsch haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Hirsch is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Pripyat tries to hold on but Hirsch pushes him away.

Pripyat is controlling an arm, preventing Hirsch from taking his back. Although keeping him in mount is no better to be honest.

Hirsch has hold of Pripyat's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Pripyat manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Pripyat is squirming around, avoiding Hirsch's attempts to control the action.
Pripyat has found himself in a tricky position here. He's been working his transitions in training so let's see if he can work his way out of it.

Hirsch wants to advance to full mount but Pripyat doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead.

Pripyat is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
