PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Sinhjo Babalu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Georges Dore (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Sinhjo Babalu!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Georges Dore!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Alec Ball and Gregory Folan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Babalu closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Dore to the mat! Dore manages to get full guard.
Babalu trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Babalu trying to control the position from guard on top but Dore is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Dore wants to stand up but Babalu is controlling him.
Dore is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Babalu postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Babalu throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Babalu pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Dore is keeping the position for now.
Babalu trying to control the position from guard on top but Dore is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Babalu throws a head kick that Dore semi-blocks.


It looks like Georges Dore has been cut.

Babalu displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Dore throws out the jab.
A punch combination from Dore misses.

Babalu has managed to clinch.
The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.
Dore is looking to control Babalu's arms but Babalu gets an underhook and turns him. Now Dore has his back to the cage.

A head punch blocked on the inside by Babalu.
Babalu lands an uppercut.
Dore wants to break free but Babalu has control.
Babalu gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Dore.
Dore managing to block the knees to the body from Babalu.
Dore wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Babalu cracks Dore with a nice body shot.
Dore wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Babalu has him pressed against the cage.
Babalu lands a body punch - he's looking to wear down Dore.
Babalu digs a right hand underneath Dore's ribcage. Dore let out a lung full of air as it connected.

Babalu is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Dore can't fight it off and eventually Babalu manages to take the fight to the floor. Dore looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Babalu wants to control from the top but Dore keeps moving.

Babalu takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Babalu looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Babalu wants to pass the guard but Dore is defending well.
Babalu is looking to take a break and control but Dore is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Babalu is thwarting Dore's attempts to control the position.
Babalu landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Dore has hold of Babalu's hands but Babalu slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Babalu is controlling the pace.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Dore misses with a head kick.
Dore looks to score with a jab to the body but Babalu is just out of range.
Dore lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Babalu circles away quickly and effectively.
Babalu takes a swing at Dore's ribcage but misses.
Dore throws a lazy head kick

and Babalu counters with a nice double leg into side control. Dore won't be happy with that.

Dore really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Babalu. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
You can see the frustration on Dore's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
The strikes coming from Babalu are missing the target in this wave of attacks.

Babalu cracks Dore with an elbow. That is naaassty.
Dore avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Babalu.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
The referee warns Dore that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Babalu has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Babalu wants to control the pace but Dore is squirming around nicely.

Babalu takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Dore tries to lock up and control but Babalu gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
The referee warns Dore that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.

Dore is trying to get back to his feet but can't.
Dore is breathing heavily.
Dore tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Dore tries to hold on but Babalu pushes him away.
Babalu scoring with strikes but Dore is staying in there.
Babalu looking to control but Dore is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Babalu breaks from Dore's wrist control and lands an elbow.

Babalu looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.

Babalu lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
Babalu looking to control but Dore is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Babalu avoids the attempt from Dore to control.
Dore is trying to avoid being dragged into an even worse position than he's already in but Babalu is staying active.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Dore is in a horrible position here. Babalu smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


Babalu lands with a nice body punch.
Babalu loads up on a big right hand but Dore slips the punch.

Babalu closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Babalu is stalling here. Dore is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Babalu seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Dore has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

Babalu looking for a sweep. Not yet Babalu, not yet.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Dore postures up.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Dore wants to control from the top but Babalu keeps moving.
Babalu manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Babalu cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Babalu looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
Babalu lands a big shot there that rocks Dore but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.

Dore wants to control but Babalu is having none of it.
Babalu thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!

Dore tries to hold on but Babalu postures up.
Georges Dore has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Well Babalu has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
