PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Gus Greenbaum (ranked 3555 p4p, 3366 weight class) and Issac Vernon (ranked 423 p4p, 404 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Issac Vernon was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.

We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Vernon has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.

Vernon lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

Vernon shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Greenbaum is trying to defend but Vernon finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Greenbaum on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Greenbaum tries to get out of the position.
Vernon postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Greenbaum is looking to stand up but Vernon isn't so interested in that idea.

Vernon is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Greenbaum knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Greenbaum tries to get back to his feet but has found himself mounted instead. Damn, that's gotta suck.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
The referee warns Greenbaum that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.

Vernon wants to finish this one by submission but Greenbaum is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Vernon.
You get the feeling that Greenbaum really doesn't like being in this position too much.
Greenbaum knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Vernon on the ground.

The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.
It looks like Vernon might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

Greenbaum won't enjoy being in this position. Vernon looking for the choke. Oh... he's slipped the arm under the neck - Greenbaum is tapping - it's over boys! Vernon picks up the submission victory!
