PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Joe Dixon (ranked 5955 p4p, 5927 weight class) and Jure Jez (ranked 618 p4p, 615 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Joe Dixon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jure Jez!
The judges for this bout are Patrick Alders, Wagner Zegers and Saam Ante.

Jez moves into range and clinches up with Dixon.

Jez pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Jez throws a solid leg kick but Dixon takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Jez.

Jez is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Jez fails with a takedown attempt.
As Jez backs away, Dixon returns fire with a leg kick that just misses.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Jez would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Jez is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.

Dixon has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Jez can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Dixon bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Jez's guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Jez is adopting a defensive guard.

Dixon drops back, looking for a kneebar! Jez looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Jez looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Jez!

Jez lands a nice forearm strike.
Jez wants to lay and pray for a moment but Dixon keeps working.

Jez decides to stand up, so the ref orders Dixon to his feet.
Dixon lands a leg kick that knocks Jez off balance momentarily.

Jez gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Jez gets control of Dixon's arms and successfully pulls guard. Jez will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Jez looking for a sweep. Not yet Jez, not yet.
Jez is trying to control the position but Dixon postures up.

Dixon throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Jez works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Jez wants to stand and escape but Dixon is having none of it.
Dixon is looking to work some ground and pound but Jez has wrist control.
Dixon content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Dixon not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Jez is pulling down on Dixon's head. It's preventing any offense from Dixon, at least for the moment.
Dixon stands up over Jez, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Dixon throws an elbow that misses. Jez uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Dixon's guard. Nice move by Jez!

Jez lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Jez makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

Dixon wants to sweep here but Jez controlling him for the moment.
Jez has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Jez gets to his feet - Dixon follows without any prompting.
Dixon leaves Jez with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

and Dixon counters with a good low kick that Jez was not able to check.
Jure Jez is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
A head kick by Jez misses
and Dixon counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.
Jez misses with a takedown attempt - Dixon sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Dixon circles away from the clinch attempt.
Dixon is looking to counter the offense by Jez and move into the clinch.
A lazy left from Dixon finds it's target.
Jez moves to clinch but Dixon breaks away
and Dixon counters with a slapping leg kick.

Joe Dixon has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jure Jez.

Jez is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Jez tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Dixon swivels and escapes.
Jez shoots in but no luck this time.

Jez goes for a double leg but Dixon avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Dixon continues to drive forward.
Jez throws an overhand right that lands on Dixon's shoulder, as Dixon tries to avoid the shot.
Dixon uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Jez.

Jez misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Dixon changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Dixon throws a nice inside leg kick.
Dixon swats away the attempt to clinch by Jez.
Dixon tried to counter with a leg kick but Jez avoided it.
Jez wants to clinch but Dixon slips to the side
and Dixon counters with a thumping low kick.
Nice sprawl there from Dixon as Jez shoots in.
Jez tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Dixon swivels and escapes.
We've been told by Dixon's head coaches at HAHAHAHAAHAA PHILANTHROPIC GYM that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.

Dixon defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Jez.
Joe Dixon is winning the standup battle so far.
Dixon scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Dixon here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.
Jez misses with a takedown
and Dixon counters with a nice uppercut.
Good leg kick by Dixon.
Jez on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.

Dixon shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Jez's guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

Jez tries to close the distance and clinch but Dixon swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Dixon. Jez shrugs it off though.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Dixon enables Jez to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Dixon manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Jez wants to control from the top but Dixon keeps moving.

Dixon looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Jez cracks Dixon with a solid left hand.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Jez lands a couple of elbows.
Dixon keeping moving, preventing Jez from controlling successfully.
Jez postures up and lands a big shot to Dixon's brow.

Dixon doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Jez distracts Dixon with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Jez is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Jez works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Jez looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Dixon with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Dixon is looking for a sweep. Jez is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Jez controlling the action here.
Jez lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Jez lands a nice short elbow.

Dixon is trying to maintain the position but Jez is very close to passing his half guard.

Jez is trying for a kimura here. Dixon looks like he's in a lot of pain... and he's tapping out! Jez wins by kimura!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:28 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Jure Jez!
Joe Dixon was interviewed post fight and said 'I promise to give you guys a better performance next time'.
