Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Arod Doyea (ranked 2907 p4p, 2727 weight class) and Masa Funaki (ranked 353 p4p, 335 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 15 - 14 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Arod Doyea! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 7 - 9 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Masa Funaki! The judges for this bout are Richard Clark, Steven Brown and James Atkins.

Funaki has been looking to improve his clinch game in recent weeks. Doyea seems to have the measure of him in the clinch so far, so let's see if Funaki can turn it around. With the fighters clinched against the cage, Funaki creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut. Funaki gets through Doyea's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head. Doyea tries to pull guard but Funaki won't allow it.

Funaki is refusing to be controlled, as Doyea sits in half guard. Funaki is looking for a sweep. Doyea is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Doyea is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Doyea is thwarting Funaki's attempts to control the position. Funaki is pressing down on Doyea's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Masa Funaki dominated that round. The cut man is working on Arod Doyea's cut. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Funaki turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick. Doyea scores with a sloppy right hand. Funaki should have avoided that one. Masa Funaki seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Doyea throws a nice inside leg kick. Doyea connects with the punch. Doyea instigates a clinch. Both guys are working to get underhooks. Funaki throws a head punch that misses. Funaki lands a nice shot to the body. Funaki lands an elbow just above Doyea 's eye. Doyea pulls guard successfully.
Funaki controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Funaki's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige. Doyea is trying to control the position from the bottom.
That's one minute gone in the round. Doyea escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Funaki gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Funaki's corner is telling him to maintain position. Funaki has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Doyea working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Funaki doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Funaki manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Doyea looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Funaki passes into side control.
Doyea is positioning himself to get back to half guard. Doyea is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Funaki off and has taken his back! Funaki is in a world of trouble here. He's outmatched on the ground here and he'd better get Doyea off his back sharpish unless he wants to be submitted.

Funaki tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell! Doyea with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.

Doyea tries to keep control of the position but Funaki is staying busy. Funaki wants to control his opponent's hands but Doyea gets his hands free. Funaki tries to roll but Doyea sticks to his back.

Funaki trying to control but Doyea is having none of it. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Funaki wants to take his opponent's back but he's not managed it. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close second round but I would say that Arod Doyea will probably get the nod. The cut man is working on Arod Doyea's cut. Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round! Doyea blocks a head kick by Funaki.

Funaki is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control. Doyea looking to pass the guard. Doyea forces his way into half guard. Funaki wants to improve his position but Doyea is controlling well.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Funaki is trying to get back to full guard. Funaki holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.

In favor of your winner, by unanimous decision... Masa Funaki! Masa Funaki decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
