Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jacob White (ranked 199 p4p, 511 weight class) and Rene Lafayette (ranked 30 p4p, 78 weight class). Lafayette has chosen Erasure - Always as his entrance music. Man, I cannot wait for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 3 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Jacob White!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Rene Lafayette!
The judges for this bout are Bart Greer, Santiago Holmes and Daniel Franklin.

White throws a right and a left that Lafayette avoids nicely.
Lafayette connects with a right hand. White shakes it off.
White walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Lafayette pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Nice shot lands for Lafayette.
Lafayette's coach down at Island Sparring was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Lafayette's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
Lafayette lands a jab to the nose.
White swings for the body but Lafayette moves out of range.
A telegraphed right hand from White misses the target.
Rene Lafayette seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Lafayette throws a hook but White blocks it.
White throws a lazy right hand but Lafayette sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Lafayette lands a nice shot that snaps White's head back.
Lafayette doesn't succeed with the takedown
letting White counter with a right hand.

White swings for the body but Lafayette moves out of range.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts White, as that shot connected.
Lafayette closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
White seems to be moving with more speed, compared to his last bout. He must have been working on that in the gym.
A jab lands there for White.
Lafayette misses with a straight right.
The fight stays on the outside here - Lafayette looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
An attempted straight right counter from White misses the target.
Lafayette misses the shot to the body.
Lafayette looks to throw the jab but White is out of range.
White appears to be looking for a counter punch to the body.

Lafayette slips a jab and a cross from White.
Lafayette tests White's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Lafayette throws a jab but it's blocked by White.
Lafayette tries to clinch up
and White counters with a lovely straight right hand!
A slow jab from White misses its intended target.
White avoids the body shot from Lafayette.
Lafayette connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed White momentarily.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Lafayette changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. White looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Lafayette is trying to get an arm triangle but White is defending well.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Lafayette happy to just control the position for now.

Lafayette tries for a kimura but White is defending well.
White seems a little lost for a moment, as Lafayette dominates the positioning.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
White tries to control the position but he's not in luck - Lafayette easily slips into full mount!
Lafayette trying to control but White is having none of it.
White stops Lafayette from taking his back. Still, being mounted isn't any better.
White tries to get back to half guard but can't.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Lafayette has isolated one of White's arms. White looking to fight him off but Lafayette twists into an armbar. It's tight... Will he tap?? YES, he's tapped! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Rene Lafayette!
Rene Lafayette decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
