Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Maikel Canel! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Vince Checkert ! The judges for this bout are Josh West, Micheangelo Fripello and Roger Salmon.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Canel moves into range and connects with a jab. Canel scores with the left hand. Checkert knows he should have avoided that one. A cross from Canel lands. Canel with the inside leg kick. Checkert closes the distance and pushes Canel back into the cage. Canel slowing the pace effectively. Canel tries to land a knee to the head but Checkert blocks with his arms.

Checkert shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Canel's guard. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Checkert trying to control but Canel is working from the bottom. Canel on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Canel tries to get out of the position.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity. Checkert throws a sloppy head kick and Canel moves out of range easily. Nice cross by Canel. Canel really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Canel defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Checkert .
That's two minutes gone in the round. Canel scores with a jab. Checkert acknowledges it with a nod of the head. Canel is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range. Checkert takes one on the chin but keeps coming.

The fight stays on the outside here - Canel looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Canel scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard. Checkert throws a half hearted mid kick. Canel blocks the body kick.
Checkert closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Checkert lands in his opponent's guard. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Checkert 's corner is telling him to maintain position. Checkert trying to control the position from guard on top but Canel is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Canel working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Checkert doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Checkert manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Checkert wants to take a breather but Canel is having none of it. Checkert moves nicely into side control. Checkert looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Checkert is trying to get an arm triangle but Canel is defending well. Checkert is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Canel knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Checkert swings around for an armbar but Canel sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Checkert 's guard. Checkert keeping full guard, as Canel tries to pass. Canel wants to control from the top but Checkert keeps moving. Checkert looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

That was a close round but I would say that Maikel Canel will probably get the nod. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Canel throws out a powerful jab. Checkert doesn't manage to clinch there - Canel circles away.

Checkert darts in looking for a takedown but Canel gets double underhooks and turns Checkert into the cage. Checkert tries to keep at a distance but Canel has taken the fight into the clinch. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Checkert tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Checkert takes a head kick and keeps coming.
Maikel Canel is winning the standup battle so far. Checkert on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Canel lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent. Canel lands with a slapping head kick.

Canel dips to his left and cracks Checkert with an uppercut! Checkert looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple. Canel works Checkert 's body with a nice hook. Canel cracks Checkert with a right hand to the side of the head. Canel lands with a thumping leg kick.

Checkert fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Maikel Canel has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Vince Checkert . Checkert on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Canel. Canel obviously looking to wear him down.
Maikel Canel seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Canel bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut. Checkert closes this distance looking for a takedown but Canel circles away. Checkert throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Canel's waist but Canel gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Checkert off to one side. Canel closes the distance and pushes Checkert back into the cage. Canel breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Canel swings wildly with an uppercut but Checkert uses good head movement to avoid it. Checkert slowing the pace effectively. Canel lands on the inside with an uppercut. Canel's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Checkert throws a sloppy head kick and Canel moves out of range easily. Checkert misses with a takedown attempt - Canel sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Canel's jab looks to have found its range, popping Checkert under the eye.

Canel tries to close the distance and clinch but Checkert swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. No luck with that takedown attempt from Checkert . We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Canel fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Checkert , pushing him back against the cage. Checkert slowing the pace effectively. Canel breaks from the clinch.
Checkert is trying hard to land a takedown here. Canel sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. Canel clobbers Checkert with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise. A head kick from Canel lands but Checkert takes it in his stride. The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end. Canel digs a good body shot into Checkert 's ribs. Canel chopping away at his opponent's legs.

Maikel Canel dominated that second round. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round! Donk. Canel catches Checkert right on the button with a cross. Checkert takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it. Canel cracks Checkert with a good jab. A jab from Canel does it's job there. Good standup being displayed there by Canel as he connects with a hook. The fight stays on the outside here - Canel looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Checkert takes a jab right on the kisser.

Vince Checkert has got the better of the ground game so far. Canel is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Checkert pulls his head out easily. Canel is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Checkert can do to turn this around?
That's one minute gone in the round. Checkert is looking for a kimura but Canel is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Checkert to get the leverage. Checkert is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Canel is just riding it out for now. Checkert eventually gives up the hold. Canel looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Canel is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Checkert pulls his head out easily. Checkert is trying to control the action in half guard but Canel is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Canel slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work. Canel wants to sweep here but Checkert controlling him for the moment. Canel has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage. Canel keeping moving, preventing Checkert from controlling successfully. Checkert avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Checkert wants to control from the top but Canel keeps moving. The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace. Canel is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Checkert is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Canel is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Canel has escaped and now he's on top! Checkert doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Canel tries to free his leg and advance position but Checkert is retaining full guard. Canel throws a big right hand that misses. Checkert working for a triangle but Canel defends it easily.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Canel has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Checkert to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Canel is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Checkert pulls down on the head and he's put Canel to sleep! This one is all over!
