PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Vyrkyx Dall (ranked 3110 p4p, 4832 weight class) and Luke Venderag (ranked 390 p4p, 522 weight class). Dall comes to the cage accompanied by Won't let go. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 21 - 20 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Vyrkyx Dall!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Luke Venderag!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Fujiwara, Kenichi Hosakawa and Hirohito Nitta.

Venderag darts in looking for a takedown but Dall gets double underhooks and turns Venderag into the cage.
Dall is looking to counter with a shot to the body.
Dall throws a sloppy head kick and Venderag moves out of range easily.

Dall dives in and scores a takedown into Venderag's guard.
Dall won't allow Venderag to get back to his feet.
Dall looking to pass the guard.
Venderag looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Dall slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Venderag is not content to let Dall control the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Dall is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Venderag's shoulder. That is not cool.

Venderag dodges the ground and pound from Dall.
Dall throwing strikes but missing, from side control.
Dall has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Dall remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
The strikes coming from Dall are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
Dall tries to stand but Venderag is controlling his head.

Dall passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Venderag!
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Venderag can do anything to dispel that myth.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Poor strikes thrown by Dall there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!
Dall is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Venderag can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Dall breaks from Venderag's wrist control and lands an elbow.
Dall tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Venderag is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Dall misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.

Venderag is trying to stand but he's just given Dall his back.
Dall is riding his opponent, not letting Venderag buck him off.

Dall shoots for a takedown but Venderag saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Venderag lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Dall backwards.

Dall looks for the body kick but Venderag saw that one coming.

Venderag fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Dall, pushing him back against the cage.
Venderag is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Venderag unloads a knee to the mid-section. Dall lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh.

Dall blocks an elbow strike.

Dall pulls Venderag into guard.

Dall escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Venderag gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Venderag postures up.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Dall is on top in guard.

Dall stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Venderag swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Dall missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Venderag tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Venderag looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Venderag keeping moving, preventing Dall from controlling successfully.
Dall would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Dall trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.
Dall controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Vyrkyx Dall overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Venderag has his feet on Dall's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.
Venderag goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.

It looks like Vyrkyx Dall has been cut.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Dall.

Dall stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Dall wants it to stay on the feet.
Vyrkyx Dall has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Luke Venderag.

Dall fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Venderag to the ground. Dall is now in Venderag's guard.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Luke Venderag showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

That's time! Dall's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

Dall tries to keep at a distance but Venderag has taken the fight into the clinch.

Venderag has been looking to improve his clinch game in recent weeks. Dall seems to have the measure of him in the clinch so far, so let's see if Venderag can turn it around.

Despite the aggression on Venderag's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.

Dall moves into range and clinches up with Venderag.
Dall takes a knee right on the jaw!

Venderag successfully pulls guard.
Venderag wants to sweep but no luck.
Venderag keeping moving, preventing Dall from controlling successfully.
Venderag is trying to keep Dall in close.
Venderag wants to stand up but Dall is controlling him.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Dall accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Dall with a flurry of punches that miss.
Dall controls from within his opponent's guard.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Dall is pushing down on Venderag's leg trying to pass to half guard. Venderag is fighting to maintain full guard but Dall has managed to sneak the leg through.
Dall not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Venderag wants to get back to full guard.
Dall looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Venderag is trying to stand.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Dall stuffs the takedown attempt from Venderag. Venderag gets slowly back to his feet.
Venderag shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Dall pinned against the cage. Dall gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Venderag shoots in and gets a takedown into Dall's guard.

Dall looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Venderag passes into side control.
Dall striking from the bottom but nothing landed.

And that's the end of the fight!
Luke Venderag comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Venderag has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
