And in the blue corner, fighting out of New York, with a TWGC record of 0 wins and 0 losses; Ichiro Suzuki! The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Jack Bonds and Timothy Bukovac.
Let's get this grappling contest under way! Who will be victorious? Suzuki misses with a takedown attempt - Cruz sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Cruz changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit. Cruz closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Suzuki to the mat! Suzuki manages to get full guard. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Cruz (2) vs (0) Suzuki Cruz trying to control the position from guard on top but Suzuki is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Cruz is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Suzuki is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him. Suzuki can't keep his opponent in guard - Cruz advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount. Cruz is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Suzuki! Score +3 for passing guard: Cruz (5) vs (0) Suzuki We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Cruz is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Suzuki to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Suzuki shrugs it off. Cruz wants to control the pace but Suzuki is squirming around nicely. Suzuki tries to get back to half guard but can't.
That's one minute gone in the round. Suzuki prevents Cruz from taking his back. Cruz looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet. Suzuki is wriggling around trying to escape.
Suzuki stops Cruz from taking his back. Still, being mounted isn't any better. Suzuki has given up his back.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Cruz gets his hands free as Suzuki looks to control. Cruz has the hooks in. Suzuki is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted. Cruz seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission. Cruz is looking for the choke from the back position but Suzuki is controlling his hands well. Suzuki breaks Cruz's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.

Cruz is keeping the position for now. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Suzuki preventing the sweep. Cruz looking for a triangle here. Suzuki is fighting it but it looks tight! Cruz pulls the arm across and this one won't last much longer! Nope, Suzuki is tapping out - this one is all over!
