Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mike Carpenter (ranked 2518 p4p, 22235 weight class) and Edmund Maloney (ranked 291 p4p, 558 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Maloney's choice of entrance music: The Sacred War by Alexandrov Red Army Choir. Man, I cannot wait for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Mike Carpenter! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 5 - 16 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Edmund Maloney! The judges for this bout are Albert Achterberg, Saam Ante and Radbod Blank.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Maloney getting the better of the striking in that exchange. Carpenter is looking to clinch but Maloney is avoiding it.
Carpenter swats away the attempt to clinch by Maloney. Carpenter tries to close the distance and clinch up but Maloney swats him away and circles back towards the center. Carpenter closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Maloney bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet! Edmund Maloney seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Good shot there by Maloney. This has been an exciting period of action! Carpenter tries to clinch but Maloney moves out of range. Maloney has taken the fight to the clinch.

Carpenter shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Maloney sprawls well. Maloney wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Carpenter gets slowly back to his feet. Carpenter shoots in but Maloney avoids the takedown attempt easily. Carpenter fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Maloney, pushing him back against the cage. Carpenter is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Maloney gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mike Carpenter. That's going to take a lot out of him. Maloney stops a takedown attempt from Carpenter.
Maloney pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
That's one minute gone in the round. Jab by Maloney. Carpenter fails in his attempt to clinch. We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Maloney has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat. Maloney takes the fight into the clinch. Maloney breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Carpenter is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Carpenter shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Maloney is trying to defend but Carpenter finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further. Maloney has one foot on Carpenter's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet. Maloney is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Carpenter. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Maloney throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Carpenter on the side of the head. Maloney sizes up Carpenter with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle. Carpenter misses with a shot to the body and Maloney counters with a lovely straight right hand! Maloney is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range. The fight stays on the outside here - Carpenter looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Carpenter is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Maloney's half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Carpenter seems to be trying to get a kimura but instead Maloney has recovered full guard. Carpenter prevents Maloney from getting back to his feet. Carpenter's corner is telling him to maintain position. Carpenter postures up.
Maloney escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Carpenter gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Carpenter might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Maloney is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Carpenter showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Carpenter has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Maloney wants to stand up but Carpenter is controlling him. The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up. Carpenter got a little sloppy there for a moment and Maloney has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Carpenter has managed to get both his arms back between Maloney's legs - danger averted. Carpenter connects with a couple of short punches. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Maloney can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Carpenter controls the pace. Carpenter stopping the sweep attempt from Maloney. Maloney being controlled here, momentarily. Maloney wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Carpenter manages to pass to side control.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Carpenter keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action. Maloney wants to improve his position but Carpenter is controlling well.
Carpenter looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity. Carpenter tries a head kick but it misses.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Edmund Maloney dominated that round. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. A low kick from Carpenter misses and Carpenter takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Maloney fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Carpenter avoids it really well and circles away. Carpenter doesn't manage to clinch there - Maloney circles away.
Good exchange - Maloney coming out on top. Maloney tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Carpenter paws at him with a jab and circles away. Carpenter drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Carpenter working away. Carpenter controls the position from side control. Carpenter working away. Carpenter knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Maloney on the ground. Maloney tries to buck Carpenter off but Carpenter is having none of it. Carpenter moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.
That's one minute gone in the round. Carpenter's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground. Carpenter working away. Maloney is trying to get back to his feet. If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Carpenter taking a breather here.
The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. Maloney connects with a nice looking jab.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Carpenter throws a series of strikes that have Maloney backpedaling.
It looks like Edmund Maloney has been cut. Maloney misses with a hook
and Carpenter counters with a left and a right... and another left... and another!! That last one turned off the lights! Maloney has no idea who he is and is as he gazes up at the spotlights. Brutal knockout!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:15 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Mike Carpenter! Edmund Maloney was interviewed post fight and said 'My opponent is a cheater!'.
