1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jurgen Klinsmann! The judges for this bout are Shigeki Sano, Tatsuya Matsuyama and Hirohito Nitta.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Klinsmann closes the distance and clinches up with Tilman, looking for a takedown. Klinsmann pushes Tilman against the cage but Tilman circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Tilman swings for the body but Klinsmann moves out of range.
Tilman closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. Tilman tries to stand and escape but Klinsmann is controlling the position. Klinsmann actively working from the bottom here. Klinsmann gets back to full guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Tilman trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Tilman is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. Tilman decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow. Klinsmann tries to close the distance and clinch but Tilman swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. A combination from Tilman does no damage. Klinsmann misses with a takedown and Tilman decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Klinsmann's guard. Klinsmann is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Tilman is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Klinsmann working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Tilman doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Tilman manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Tilman wants to control from the top but Klinsmann keeps moving. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Tilman wants to pass the guard but Klinsmann is keeping the position. Klinsmann had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Tilman is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Klinsmann Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Tilman's back instead.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Klinsmann doesn't have the hooks in and Tilman manages to turn into his guard.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Klinsmann gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Tilman counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Klinsmann's guard now. Tony Tilman has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jurgen Klinsmann. Klinsmann is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

He's concentrating on that move too much though and Tilman pushes past his half guard into mount! And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tilman throws a jab when Klinsmann was well out of range. Klinsmann throws a head kick but Tilman moves out of range.

Tilman is keen to just control but Klinsmann is a slippery customer. Tilman is figuring out what he wants to do next. Klinsmann wants to get back to full guard but Tilman has mounted him! Klinsmann is breathing heavily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Tilman working for a guillotine from mount but Klinsmann is in no mood to give up. Klinsmann is squirming around, avoiding Tilman's attempts to control the action. Klinsmann is looking to get to half guard. Klinsmann avoids a strike by Tilman and manages to complete a very nice reversal in the process, to end up in Tilman's guard! Fantastic escape!

That's two minutes gone in the round. Klinsmann is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Tilman is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Tilman has escaped and now he's on top! Tilman gets to his feet - Klinsmann follows without any prompting. Klinsmann uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Tilman. Tilman throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Tilman fails to land with a series of punches.
Tilman shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Klinsmann is trying to defend but Tilman finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further. Tilman trying to mount his opponent but Klinsmann defends it.

Klinsmann is refusing to be controlled, as Tilman sits in half guard. Tilman slows the pace down in half guard. Klinsmann wants to get back to full guard. Klinsmann wants to get back to his feet.

The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Tilman working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet. Tilman is going olschool here, as he tries to force Klinsmann to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Klinsmann shrugs it off. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Tilman is working for a submission of some sort.

Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Klinsmann's head. Tilman seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Klinsmann does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Tilman wants to get back to his feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Klinsmann blocks a jab. Nice defenses there by Klinsmann. Tilman looks to score with a jab to the body but Klinsmann is just out of range. Klinsmann shoots and misses and Tilman counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. Tony Tilman has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jurgen Klinsmann. Klinsmann has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Tilman is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Klinsmann. Klinsmann is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Tilman's leg. He's managed it. Nice work. Tilman not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Klinsmann looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
