Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Monty Don (ranked 731 p4p, 4961 weight class) and Jose Valdez (ranked 106 p4p, 567 weight class). Valdez comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Pump it up kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Monty Don! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 5 - 7 - 2, fighting out of The Island, Jose Valdez! The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Bart Greer and Sandra Marshall.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Valdez looks for the body kick but Don saw that one coming. Don appears to be looking for a counter takedown. We've been hearing reports that Don has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight. Don darts in and out, connecting with a jab. Valdez throws a body kick but he was well out of range there. Don lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Valdez tries a head kick but it misses.
Don swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect. Valdez throws a sloppy head kick and Don moves out of range easily. Valdez has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Don finds it's way round the side to connect with Valdez's head. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Don shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Valdez but Valdez pushes him off and we're back to square one. Don shoots for a takedown but Valdez saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Valdez wants to counter with a clinch but Don pushes him away.
That's one minute gone in the round. Valdez uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Don. Valdez looks for the body kick but Don saw that one coming. Don drops down looking for a counter takedown but Valdez sprawls and moves away. Don misses with a left hand and Valdez counters into the clinch. Nicely done. Valdez manages to break the clinch.
Monty Don seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Don closes the distance and clinches up with Valdez, looking for a takedown. Don pushes Valdez against the cage but Valdez circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Monty Don. That's going to take a lot out of him. Valdez misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Valdez throws a sloppy head kick and Don moves out of range easily. Jose Valdez is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Valdez slaps away a takedown attempt from Don, before circling back to the center of the mat. Valdez feints the counter takedown.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Don moves out of range of the body kick. Valdez throws a sloppy head kick and Don counters with a nice double leg into side control. Valdez won't be happy with that. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Valdez can do anything to dispel that myth. Don prevents Valdez from escaping the position. Don looks up at the clock and then as Valdez takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Don smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
This has been an exciting period of action! Don has hold of Valdez's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Valdez seems comfortable defending it but Don has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Valdez is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Valdez is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Don couldn't care less - he's delighted!
