Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Hugh Shelby (ranked 2553 p4p, 1987 weight class) and Matt Askren (ranked 362 p4p, 277 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Askren tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Askren jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Shelby walks away with a smile on his face. Askren gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Askren is trying to drag Shelby to the mat but Shelby just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Askren has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Askren is sitting in half guard. He's postured up and lands a nice elbow. Oh, Shelby is hurt! He's hurt bad - Askren fires away with more strikes and the referee jumps in to save Shelby from any more punishment! Congratulations to Askren! Great finish!

After winning the bout, Matt Askren thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
