PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Jens Jensen (ranked 6177 p4p, 23373 weight class) and Hiroshi Papo (ranked 233 p4p, 268 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.

The judges for this bout are Igor Prikhodko, Valeri Chadov and Viktor Lagutenko.

and Jensen counters with a series of strikes. Papo will be more careful next time no doubt.

Papo closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Papo thows a huge punch but Jensen dodges it nicely.
My spies in Advanced Fitness Inc. inform me that Papo has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!

Jensen is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Jensen really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
The referee asks Papo politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Papo prefers to stall for the moment though.
It looks like Papo might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

Papo is throwing strikes from the back here. Oh that last one was to the back of the head. Papo gets a warning from the referee. He throws another strike to the back of the head straight away though and the referee has seen enough. He breaks up the two fighters and stands them back up. Papo gets a real talking to here and is lucky not to get a point deducted. Papo apologises and we restart here on the feet.

Papo closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Jensen quickly recovers to half guard.

Jensen seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Jensen can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Papo controls the pace.
Jensen will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Papo's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Jensen throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Papo tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Jensen is in Papo's guard.

Jensen is looking for a kimura. It's pretty deep but Papo still has the half guard so he's probably OK. Oh, Papo has exploded into a beautiful escape there and after a quick scramble, he's ended up in side control on top! Nice work!

That was a close second round but I would say that Jens Jensen will probably get the nod.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Jensen is looking to take a break and control but Papo is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

Papo takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Jensen shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Papo sprawls well. Papo wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Jensen gets slowly back to his feet.

A telegraphed takedown attempt from Papo is defended easily by Jensen.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Papo will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
