PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Uestus Johnston (ranked 24365 p4p, 2619 weight class) and Shigeru Uchida (ranked 598 p4p, 324 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Johnston might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Clint Eastwood- Gorillaz. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Johnston throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Johnston throws a predictable looking body shot
and Uchida counters with an outside leg kick.
Uchida walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Johnston checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.
Johnston loads up on a big right hand but Uchida slips the punch.
Johnston scores with a shot to the body.
Uchida fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Johnston.
Uchida scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.

It looks like Uestus Johnston has been cut.
Uchida connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Johnston misses with a straight right.
Uchida looks like he wanted to counter with a high kick but didn't throw it.
Uchida goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
Johnston on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
Johnston ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Uchida moves away.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Uchida takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Johnston takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?
Uchida lands a nice looking body kick.
Johnston is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Uchida.
Uchida throws a head kick but Johnston moves out of range.

Johnston lands a slapping body shot.
The fighters circle, before Uchida throws a beautiful high kick that crashes into Johnston's neck, sending him stumbling to the floor! Uchida lands more strikes and forces a referee stoppage! That one ended in an instant!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:23 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Kick & Punches). Shigeru Uchida!
Shigeru Uchida spent the whole post fight interview bigging himself up. It didn't go down that well with the fans after a while as they thought it was a bit arrogant.
