PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Gavin Burns (ranked 1187 p4p, 1192 weight class) and John Lock (ranked 137 p4p, 139 weight class). Burns kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Lovely Jubbly. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Gavin Burns!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, John Lock!
The judges for this bout are Thiago Cunha, Edson Gomes and Seu Braga.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lock has a takedown stuffed.
Gavin Burns seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Burns throws a body kick, spinning off balance

and Lock counters with a nice double leg into side control. Burns won't be happy with that.

Lock decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Burns misses with a wild body shot.
Lock shoots in but no luck this time.
Lock staying out of range there.

Lock dives in and scores a takedown into Burns's guard.

Burns is working an open guard so Lock takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Burns will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Lock changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Lock shoots in looking for a takedown. Burns tries to sprawl out of it but Lock keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Burns manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Gavin Burns has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John Lock.

Lock uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Burns.
Lock changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Lock checks the leg kick nicely there.
Lock was about to counter that last move with a leg kick but changes his mind.
A low kick from Burns is predictable there

and Lock counters with a takedown into side control.

Burns looks to throw a body kick

Lock stands up and beckons Burns to his feet.
Lock takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Lock stands up and waves to Burns to follow him.

Lock shoots in but Burns avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Lock closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Lock stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.

and Lock counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Burns!

Lock decides to stand back up.
Burns scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
Burns wants to slow Lock down by chopping away at his legs.
Lock takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
Burns looks to land a combination but Lock avoids it well.
And Lock tries to counter it with a takedown but Burns pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Lock shoots in for a takedown but Burns shows good takedown defense.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Burns tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Lock with the counter takedown but Burns avoids it easily.
Burns swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Burns thows a leg kick but Lock checks it

and Lock counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Burns wants to stand and escape but Lock is having none of it.

Lock stands up and waves to Burns to follow him.
Burns tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Burns throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Lock takes a body kick right on the floating rib. Ouchie.
Burns is looking to score with low kicks.
A head kick by Burns misses

so Lock counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Lock gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Burns throws a leg kick

and Lock counters with a shoot takedown. Burns fights it but they end up in guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Lock decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Burns, up you get!
Lock uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Burns.
Lock is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.
Lock looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Lock shoots in for a takedown but Burns shows good takedown defense.
Lock blocks a leg kick.
Lock is trying to avoid his opponent's strikes and get into the clinch.
Burns defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Lock.
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Burns lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.

Burns lands a big uppercut and Lock crumbles to the floor! The ref thinks about stopping the fight but Lock looks OK. Burns waves Lock back to his feet!

Lock is rocked!
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Gavin Burns will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Lock is wiping some vaseline out of his eye. Burns doesn't give a rats ass about fair play and cracks him with a massive hook to the side of the head! Lock crumples to the floor out cold! The cornerman is going to be in Lock's bad books for that mishap!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:05 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Gavin Burns!
A relieved looking Gavin Burns thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
