PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Dennis Rader (ranked 890 p4p, 2172 weight class) and Jack Tupp (ranked 103 p4p, 249 weight class). Tupp has chosen Black No. 1 as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Dennis Rader!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Jack Tupp!
The judges for this bout are Tatsuya Matsuyama, Sosuke Kotani and Shigeki Fujiwara.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rader cracks Tupp with an open hand slap.
Nice body punch from Rader.
Rader lands a slapping body shot.
Nice shot by Rader.
Rader catches Tupp with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Tupp has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Rader finds it's way round the side to connect with Tupp's head.
A jab lands there for Rader.

Tupp rushes Rader and presses him up against the cage.
Rader is trying to pull guard but Tupp turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
Rader gets through Tupp's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Rader tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Tupp smiles and moves away.
Rader cracks Tupp with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
Dennis Rader is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Tupp takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Rader throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Rader dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Tupp wants to clinch
and Rader counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Tupp takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Rader is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.
Rader's jab looks to have found its range, popping Tupp under the eye.
Rader throws a lazy right hand but Tupp sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

Rader moves into the clinch.

Rader successfully pulls guard.

Rader working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Tupp has passed into half guard!

Rader looking to force a kimura from the bottom here. He's concentrating on that move too much though and Tupp pushes past his half guard into mount!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Tupp controlling the position easily from mount.
Rader manages to regain half guard. Good work.

Tupp stands up and beckons Rader to join him on the feet.
Dennis Rader seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Tupp is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Rader.
Rader is really peppering his opponent's head with punches.
Rader ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Tupp tries to close the distance and clinch but Rader swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Tupp takes a shot right to the bread basket.
It looks like Rader has been trying to sharpen up his punching technique, as it looks crisper than last time we saw him.
Tupp on the wrong end of a nice hook.
Rader connects with a body shot that sends Tupp's belly button to the back.
Rader stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Rader wants it to stay on the feet.

Rader tests Tupp's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Rader takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Rader really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Rader lands a nice shot to the body.
Rader connects with a looping right hand.
Rader goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Rader moves into range and connects with a jab.
Rader scores with a sloppy right hand. Tupp should have avoided that one.
Rader misses with the combination.
Tupp avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Dennis Rader dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Rader smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Rader scores with a decent looking hook.
Tupp uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Rader.

Rader clinches up with Tupp and pushes him back against the cage.
Tupp has had enough of the clinch but Rader keeps him there for the moment.
Rader jumps guard but Tupp stands there with Rader around his waist. Rader gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Rader fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Rader tries to pull guard but Tupp holds him up against the cage and eventually Rader drops back down to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dennis Rader. That's going to take a lot out of him.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Rader has a closed guard, preventing Tupp from standing up.

Tupp pushing down on Rader's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Tupp working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.

Tupp is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Tupp perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Rader is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Tupp pulls his head out easily.

Rader looking to force a kimura from the bottom here. He's concentrating on that move too much though and Tupp pushes past his half guard into mount!

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Tupp trying to control but Rader is having none of it.
Rader wants to control but Tupp is having none of it.
Tupp controlling from the full mount.
Rader is trying to escape the mount.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Jack Tupp will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Rader throws a lazy right hand but Tupp sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Rader lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Rader uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Tupp has time to react.

Rader goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Rader tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Tupp's elbow.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Tupp breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Jack Tupp is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Tupp gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Rader is trying to pull guard but Tupp has him pressed against the cage.

Rader is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Tupp to keep the fight standing.

Tupp decides to stand back up.
Tupp takes one to the chin there.

Tupp decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Rader regains full guard. Nicely done.
Rader is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Tupp can do to turn this around?

Rader will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Tupp wants to stand but Rader has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Tupp slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Rader is looking for a triangle here but Tupp uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Rader is looking for a sweep.
Jack Tupp has got the better of the ground game so far.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Dennis Rader.
I think Rader has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
