PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Art Bowers (ranked 3542 p4p, 3925 weight class) and Lyutskan Ivankov (ranked 44 p4p, 128 weight class). Lyutskan Ivankov told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Art Bowers!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Lyutskan Ivankov!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Robert Twigg and Wesley Smith.

Ivankov uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Bowers.
Ivankov drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Bowers defends it well.
Ivankov lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.

It looks like Art Bowers has been cut.
Ivankov stalks Bowers and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Bowers's face. Bowers staggers backwards, shaken.

Ivankov drops Bowers with a hook right on the temple. He thinks about going to the ground but Bowers looks back up at him and smiles so Ivankov waves him back to his feet - he obviously thinks he can knock him out after that shot landed.

We've been told by Bowers's head coaches at Intergalactic Guerrilla Boxing that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Bowers lands with an uppercut that bounces Ivankov off the cage and back into range.
Ivankov tries to close the distance and clinch up but Bowers swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Bowers gets control of Ivankov's arms and successfully pulls guard. Bowers will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Bowers pushes Ivankov off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

Ivankov tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Bowers manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Ivankov tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.

Bowers ducks under a wild hook from Ivankov.
Ivankov lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
Ivankov on the wrong end of a nice hook.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Lyutskan Ivankov seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Ivankov connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Bowers momentarily.

and Bowers counters with a shoot takedown. Ivankov fights it but they end up in guard.
Ivankov is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Bowers dives into side control.

Ivankov is looking to get back to his feet here but Bowers is keeping cool and he's managed to take Ivankov's back.

Bowers gets back to his feet - a bit of a stange decision given the position he was in.

Bowers lands a jab-cross combination.
Bowers fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Ivankov on the side of the head.
Bowers throws a lazy right hand but Ivankov sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

and Bowers counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Ivankov wants to get back to his feet.
We've been informed that Ivankov has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.

Ivankov tries to close the distance and clinch but Bowers swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Bowers throws a jab when Ivankov was well out of range.
Ivankov ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Ivankov wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.

Bowers throws a right hand that misses
and Ivankov counters with a right hand to the body.
Bowers moves out of range as Ivankov strikes.
Ivankov scores with a hook.
Bowers's corner calls for a 1-2. Bowers obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
Ivankov connects with the punch.

Ivankov lands a big right hand that sends Bowers crashing to the mat! Ivankov stays standing though and waves Bowers back to his feet!
Oh Bowers is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Ivankov avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Bowers seems to have got his legs back now.
Ivankov cracks Bowers with a hook to the temple - Bowers is on wobbly legs here! Ivankov swarms him with hook after hook, landing with each one! Bowers falls to the canvas face first and the referee dives in to stop the fight! Ivankov wins by TKO!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:37 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Lyutskan Ivankov!
Lyutskan Ivankov decided to thank the fans in attendance for making a great atmosphere. It seemed to go down pretty well.
