PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Rubicon Jay (ranked 2148 p4p, 3341 weight class) and Lukas Hooper (ranked 121 p4p, 171 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Rubicon Jay!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Lukas Hooper!
The judges for this bout are John Roberts, Chad Campbell and Alyssa Summers.

Jay throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Hooper tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.

and Hooper counters with a shoot takedown. Jay fights it but they end up in guard.
Hooper trying to control but Jay is working from the bottom.
Hooper stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Jay swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Jay is looking for a triangle here but Hooper uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.

Jay is in a tricky position. We've heard reports from his gym mates at Hardcore MMA that he's been drilling escapes, so let's see if he can get back to his feet.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Jay regains full guard. Nicely done.

Jay is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Hooper wants to control from the top but Jay keeps moving.

Hooper seems to be looking to move to his opponent's back but Jay is holding on tight.

Hooper jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Jay is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Jay and Hooper has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

Jay seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Hooper told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet.

Hooper has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Jay can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Jay throws a series of punches but Hooper moves out of range.
Jay scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
Jay stuffs the takedown.
Hooper fails with a takedown attempt.
Jay half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
Hooper takes a body punch but keeps moving.

Rubicon Jay has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Lukas Hooper.

Hooper has taken the fight to the clinch.
Hooper is trying to pull guard but Jay turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
Hooper is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Hooper is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Jay defends it well.

Hooper moves nicely into side control.
Jay throwing some weak shots from the bottom that do no damage.

Jay is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Hooper has just dragged him back down to the mat.

Hooper thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Hooper is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Jay knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Hooper is breathing heavily.

Hooper tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Hooper has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Jay is not content to let Hooper control the position.

Hooper is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Jay is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Jay goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.

It looks like Lukas Hooper has been cut.
Hooper avoids a punch combination nicely.
Jay throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Hooper is looking to take a break and control but Jay is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Jay is trying to escape and get back to his feet.

Hooper is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Jay knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Jay can't escape the position.

Hooper is persistently looking for the submission but Jay is defending it well.
Jay just trying to survive but Hooper is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.
Jay is really stuck here.

Hooper working for a RNC but it's not happening just yet.
Hooper is not going to allow Jay to sit and survive in this position.
Jay is trying to get back to his feet but Hooper has full control of the position and if anything, Jay has just worked his way into a worse spot.

Hooper controlling well, preventing Jay from escaping the position.
Jay breaks Hooper's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
Jay has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Hooper had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Jay defends it easily.
Jay is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Jay is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Jay wants to pass the guard but Hooper is keeping the position.
Jay sitting in guard, not really doing much.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

I would just about give that final round to Lukas Hooper.
I think Hooper has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
