Van Vactor misses with a takedown
and Alvarez counters with a nice double leg into side control. Van Vactor won't be happy with that.
Van Vactor tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Alvarez wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Van Vactor is trying to control Alvarez's posture but Alvarez avoids it.
Alvarez is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Van Vactor is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Alvarez has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.

Alvarez seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Van Vactor for as long as he can get away with.

Owen Alvarez decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
