PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jin Sakai (ranked 4512 p4p, 4618 weight class) and Charon Andino (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jin Sakai!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Charon Andino!
The judges for this bout are Taro Takaoka, Yukihiro Shimada and Ren Mimura.

Andino misses with a double jab

and Sakai holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Andino wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Sakai manages to pull guard.

Sakai has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Andino can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Sakai escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Andino gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Sakai bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Andino's guard.

Sakai stands and throws Andino's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Sakai wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Andino, who protects the arm well.

Sakai thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

A head kick misses from Andino.

Sakai drops down looking for a counter takedown but Andino sprawls and moves away.

and Sakai counters with a single leg into guard. Andino didn't expect that.

Andino is working an open guard so Sakai takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Andino gets caught napping as Sakai dives in and scores a takedown. Andino manages to retain guard.

Andino is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Sakai is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Sakai doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Andino tries to break free but Sakai pushes him back against the cage.
Andino gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Sakai.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jin Sakai. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Sakai escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Andino pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Andino throws a sloppy head kick and Sakai moves out of range easily.
Sakai thinks about countering with a body kick.

Andino is trying to break the clinch but Sakai is controlling him.
Sakai wants a takedown but no success here.
Sakai is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Andino can do to turn this around?

Sakai jumps guard and drags Andino to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Andino really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Sakai. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Sakai manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Andino manages to get himself to full guard.

Sakai slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Sakai has his opponent's back and is working for the choke.
Jin Sakai overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Andino is being controlled on the ground here - he must escape this position otherwise surely the end is near.

Jin Sakai dominated that second round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

Andino stalks Sakai and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Sakai's face. Sakai staggers backwards, shaken.
Andino misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Andino pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Andino misses with a few strikes there.

Sakai fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Andino, pushing him back against the cage.

Sakai gets control of Andino's arms and successfully pulls guard. Sakai will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Sakai wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Andino must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sakai is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Andino got a little sloppy there for a moment and Sakai has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Andino has managed to get both his arms back between Sakai's legs - danger averted.

Sakai manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Andino manages to get himself to full guard.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Sakai advances to half guard.
Sakai throwing shots but Andino is blocking nicely.
Sakai prevents Andino from standing back up.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Sakai decides to return to a standing position.
Sakai slips a jab and a cross from Andino.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jin Sakai showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Sakai, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
