PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Rey Bargos (ranked 3082 p4p, 2396 weight class) and Conor Aldo (ranked 358 p4p, 289 weight class). Aldo has chosen The Foggy Dew as his entrance music. Conor Aldo will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 5 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Rey Bargos!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Conor Aldo!
The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, Francis DeMontford and Winston Howard.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
The fight stays on the outside here - Bargos looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Aldo throws the kick towards the body but Bargos avoids it.

Bargos darts in and clinches Aldo up against the cage.
Bargos tries to pull guard but Aldo won't allow it.
Aldo swings wildly with an uppercut but Bargos uses good head movement to avoid it.
Bargos is trying to pull guard but Aldo turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
Aldo misses with a punch to the body.
Bargos is trying to pull guard but Aldo has him pressed against the cage.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Rey Bargos. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Aldo is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Bargos is pulling down on Aldo's head. It's preventing any offense from Aldo, at least for the moment.
Bargos seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission.
Aldo slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Aldo's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Aldo tries to free his leg and advance position but Bargos is retaining full guard.
Bargos is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Bargos's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
Bargos avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Bargos doesn't manage to clinch there - Aldo circles away.
Bargos wants to clinch.

and Aldo counters with a nice low kick that buckles Bargos's knee momentarily.
Aldo goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Aldo tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Bargos tries to counter with a takedown but Aldo is quick to defend against it.
Aldo swats away the attempt to clinch by Bargos.

That kick from Aldo tenderised Bargos's leg. Bargos is trying to keep his angry face on.

Bargos fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Aldo, pushing him back against the cage.

Bargos has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Aldo uses from the top position.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Aldo takes an elbow to the temple.

A close round but Conor Aldo will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

It looks like Conor Aldo has been cut.
Bargos tries to close the distance and clinch but Aldo swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Bargos lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.
Aldo is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.

Bargos jumps guard but Aldo stands there with Bargos around his waist. Bargos gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
A left hand lands to the body for Bargos.
Aldo misses with a short punch on the inside.
A head punch on the inside from Bargos fails to land.
Bargos jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Aldo walks away with a smile on his face. Bargos gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Aldo has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Bargos is landing a low percentage of strikes.

The crowd cheers as Aldo lands an impressive looking overhand right. Bargos doesn't seem phased though.

Rey Bargos seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Aldo connects with a high kick.
Aldo lands a nice shot that snaps Bargos's head back.
Bargos tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Aldo manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Bargos is rocked!
Aldo lands a nice hook to Bargos's body. Bargos takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Oh Bargos is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Bargos walks right into a perfectly timed right hook and goes down hard! He's out cold! The ref cradles Bargos limp body while Aldo jumps on to the cage and waves to the roaring crowd. Wow that was just a brutal knockout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:41 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Conor Aldo!
Conor Aldo spent the whole post fight interview bigging himself up. It didn't go down that well with the fans after a while as they thought it was a bit arrogant.
The defeated Rey Bargos had this to say: 'I tried so hard, can't seem to get away from misery Man, I tried so hard, will always be a victim of these streets It ain't my fault 'cause I try to get away, but trouble follows me And still I try so hard, hopin' one day they'll come and rescue me But until then I'll be posted up right here rai'.
