PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Warran Peace (ranked 5047 p4p, 6396 weight class) and Ripper Stallone (ranked 429 p4p, 476 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Warran Peace!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Ripper Stallone!
The judges for this bout are Ben Hemmingworth, Donatello Bradman and Hugh Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stallone scores with a one two! Peace had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.

It looks like Warran Peace has been cut.

Stallone shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Stallone is just content to waste time from the top position. Peace takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Stallone wants to control from the top but Peace keeps moving.
Stallone content to stall in guard here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Stallone wants to pass the guard but Peace is keeping the position.
Peace utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Peace can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Stallone controls the pace.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Let's hope that Stallone has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Peace gets a takedown into half guard.
Stallone tries to get to full guard but Peace has control of the leg.
Peace missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.

Peace is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.

Stallone kicks off Peace and gets to his feet.
A looping hook to the body misses from Stallone. Peace does a little dance to reset his feet.
Peace looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.

Stallone has closed the distance and engaged Peace in a clinch.

Stallone breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Stallone throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Stallone throws a body kick that misses.
Stallone looks to clinch

and Peace counters with a nice double leg into guard.

Stallone is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Peace with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Peace distracts Stallone with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Peace stands up over Stallone, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Stallone looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Stallone is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Stallone keeping full guard, as Peace tries to pass.
Stallone is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Stallone is trying to control the action in half guard but Peace is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Stallone throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Peace to regain full guard.
Stallone slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Stallone tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Stallone has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Stallone controls the position from side control.
Stallone looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Peace is avoiding damage well.
Peace has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Stallone is looking to take a break and control but Peace is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Ripper Stallone dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Warran Peace's cut.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Stallone misses with a two punch combination.
Stallone misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Sloppy strikes from Stallone. Those never looked like landing.
Stallone has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Peace scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Peace thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Stallone's head.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Stallone gets back to full guard.
Peace landing some decent shots from guard.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Peace's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Stallone lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Peace pulls Stallone in close to his closed guard and prevents Stallone from doing any damage or advancing position.

Stallone gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

Stallone rushes Peace and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Peace is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Stallone gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Stallone is pressed up against the cage. Peace has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Stallone down to the mat. Stallone avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Peace fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Stallone avoids it really well and circles away.
Stallone changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Warran Peace. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Stallone stuffs the takedown.

Stallone throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Peace was covering up waiting for the punch and Stallone finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Stallone's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Stallone wants to get up but he can't break Peace's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

and Stallone counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

Stallone drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Peace defends it well.
Warran Peace is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Peace uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Stallone.
Stallone closes this distance looking for a takedown but Peace circles away.
Peace shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Stallone as he jumps to the side.
Stallone tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Stallone throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Peace.
Stallone misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Stallone fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Peace changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Peace has his takedown stuffed
and Stallone counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

Stallone gets a double leg takedown into Peace's guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Stallone controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Stallone lands a couple of decent looking shots.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Ripper Stallone showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

That's time! Peace's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

Stallone looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Peace!
Stallone is trying to ground and pound but Peace uses the momentary lack of control by Stallone to regain half guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.

Peace throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Stallone tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Peace is in Stallone's guard.

Stallone scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Stallone throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Peace's waist but Peace gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Stallone off to one side.
Stallone is looking to clinch but Peace is avoiding it.
Peace fails with a takedown attempt from distance.

Warran Peace has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
A right-left combo lands from Stallone.
Stallone slaps away a takedown attempt from Peace, before circling back to the center of the mat.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Stallone.
Warran Peace has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ripper Stallone.

and Peace counters with a single leg into guard. Stallone didn't expect that.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Stallone is on top in guard.

Stallone looking to sit in guard and control but Peace gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Stallone is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Peace is controlling him.
Stallone bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Peace's guard.

Stallone looking to sit in guard and control but Peace gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Our spies down at at Finnish Elite Sport and Fitness Center inform us that Stallone has really been working on his submissions in the buildup to this fight. Will it pay off?
Stallone wants to sweep here but Peace controlling him for the moment.
Ripper Stallone is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Well Stallone has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
