PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Dragan Davydenko (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lucky Strike (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dragan Davydenko!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Lucky Strike!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, George Francis and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Davydenko gets caught flat footed, as Strike shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Strike looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Strike prevents Davydenko from getting back to his feet.
Strike throws a big right hand that misses.

Davydenko pushes Strike off and scrambles back to his feet.

Strike shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Davydenko is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.

Strike is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Davydenko has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Davydenko!
Davydenko has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Davydenko gets to his feet. Strike looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

It looks like Lucky Strike has been cut.

Davydenko will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Davydenko pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Davydenko throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Davydenko tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Strike closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Strike thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Strike with the ground and pound but Davydenko uses the opportunity to regain guard.
Strike postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

A nice leg kick lands there from Davydenko.
Strike tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Davydenko swivels and escapes.
Davydenko throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Strike fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Strike looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Strike avoids the head kick by Davydenko.
Davydenko throws a sloppy head kick and Strike moves out of range easily.
Strike misses with a takedown attempt - Davydenko sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Dragan Davydenko has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Lucky Strike.

Strike scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.

Strike is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Strike throws a strike but Davydenko avoids it easily and moves to full guard.

Davydenko is looking to stand up but Strike isn't so interested in that idea.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Strike thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Strike in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Davydenko wants to stand up but Strike is controlling him.
Davydenko utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
A head kick misses from Davydenko.
Dragan Davydenko seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Strike looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Davydenko is fending him off so far but Strike persists. Nope, Davydenko circles away and we're back to standing.
Davydenko keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Strike feints and as Davydenko raises his hands in defense, Strike changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Strike postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

Strike drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Strike jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Strike working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Strike chips away with some ground and pound.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Strike accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Strike lands a couple of digs.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Dragan Davydenko will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Lucky Strike's cut.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Strike in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Davydenko wants to stand up but Strike is controlling him.
Strike throws a big right hand that misses.
Strike throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Davydenko works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Davydenko wants to stand and escape but Strike is having none of it.
Strike trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Strike distracts Davydenko with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Strike shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Davydenko throws a head kick that misses.
Davydenko lands with a kick to the temple. Strike shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
Davydenko feints and then cracks Strike's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Strike down.

Strike changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Davydenko looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Strike connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Davydenko some visible discomfort.
Strike grinds an elbow into Davydenko's temple.

Strike tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Strike has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Davydenko wants to get back to his feet.

Strike has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Strike lands a nice forearm strike.
Strike is trying to ground and pound but Davydenko uses the momentary lack of control by Strike to regain half guard.

Strike seems to be looking for submissions.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Davydenko is looking to get back to is feet but Strike passes into side control.

Strike is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Davydenko is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Davydenko is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Strike asserts his dominance and retains side control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Davydenko avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Strike.

Strike working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Strike goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Davydenko has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Strike but great work by Davydenko.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Lucky Strike showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

Strike misses with a head shot. Davydenko uses the momentum to regain guard.

Strike looking to improve position, pressing down on Davydenko's thigh with his hand. Davydenko seems to be working to lock up a guilotine though... is Strike paying attention? Apparently not! He's locked it up tight! Strike's face has turned purple! Will he tap? Will he! YES! He's tapped! Davydenko picked his opening and made it count! Great finish!
