PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Ron Gon (ranked 1624 p4p, 2698 weight class) and Michael Mulligan (ranked 184 p4p, 271 weight class). Michael Mulligan told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Ron Gon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Michael Mulligan!
The judges for this bout are Thiago Cunha, Alexandre Firmino and Matheus Silva.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sloppy strikes from Mulligan. Those never looked like landing.
Mulligan throws a body shot but no joy.
Mulligan dodges the punch combination from Gon.
Gon takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Gon scores with a punch to the head.
Mulligan swings for the body but Gon moves out of range.
Gon lands with a nice body punch.
Gon misses with a series of wild punches.
No joy there for Gon, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Mulligan has managed to clinch.
Mulligan tries to break free but Gon pushes him back against the cage.

Mulligan escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Mulligan has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
Gon slips a jab from Mulligan.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Mulligan looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.

Mulligan misses with a head kick.
Mulligan lands a two punch combo.
Mulligan scores with a sloppy right hand. Gon should have avoided that one.
Gon with a body punch. A glancing blow.
Mulligan listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut.
Gon changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Mulligan cracks Gon with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
Mulligan takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Gon misses with a few strikes there.
Mulligan lands a slapping body shot.
Gon wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Mulligan looks winded!
Mulligan throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Gon fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Mulligan looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Gon lands a right hook to the body.
Gon is looking to wear down Mulligan with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.
Mulligan tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Gon goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Gon definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Gon darts in and out, connecting with a jab.

Mulligan is rocked!
Mulligan tries to get into range but Gon steps to the side and lands a beautiful hook that drops Mulligan! He's faceplanted into the mat, ass in the air... he's out cold! That's an image he won't want to show his grandkids when he gets older! Gon scores the big KO victory!
