PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Edmund Maloney (ranked 3410 p4p, 3662 weight class) and Yowis Ben (ranked 385 p4p, 401 weight class). Maloney comes into the arena with The Sacred War by Alexandrov Red Army Choir blaring out of the sound system. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 17 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Edmund Maloney!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 18 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Yowis Ben!
The judges for this bout are Paulsen Ambrosius, Saam Ante and Nard Betker.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ben shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Maloney defends it nicely.
Maloney takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.

It looks like Yowis Ben has been cut.
Ben walks into a straight right hand from Maloney.
Maloney really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Ben feints and as Maloney raises his hands in defense, Ben changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Ben trying to control but Maloney is working from the bottom.
Ben won't allow Maloney to get back to his feet.
Ben is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Maloney wants to get back to his feet but Ben is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Ben is stalling in the full guard.

Ben pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Maloney is keeping the position for now.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Maloney not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Ben trying to control but Maloney is working from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Ben is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Maloney is trying to keep Ben in close.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.

That has opened up Yowis Ben's cut even more.

Ben shoots in and bounces Maloney off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Ben is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Ben lands a couple of digs.
Ben is in close to Maloney's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Ben content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Maloney has momentary wrist control but Ben slips an elbow through the middle.

Maloney is pulling down on Ben's head. It's preventing any offense from Ben, at least for the moment.
Ben is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Ben is in close to Maloney's body, working some short punches and elbows.

Maloney tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Ben is pushing down on Maloney's leg trying to pass to half guard. Maloney is fighting to maintain full guard but Ben has managed to sneak the leg through.
Ground and pound from Ben.
Ben slips a nice elbow through Maloney's hands, connecting with Maloney's forehead.
Ben is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Maloney!
Maloney is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position.
Ben looking to control and managing it successfully.
Maloney tries to buck Ben off but he can't manage it.
Ben controlling from mount.
Ben lands a big elbow.
Ben cracks Maloney with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Maloney tries to hold on but Ben postures up.
Ben has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Maloney is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.
Ben with a couple of short strikes.

Ben is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Maloney can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Ben controlling the pace for now.

Maloney somehow manages to escape the mount and get back to his feet!
Ben shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Maloney as he avoids it easily.
Maloney throws an overhand right that lands on Ben's shoulder, as Ben tries to avoid the shot.
Maloney throws a series of punches but Ben avoids them all with ease.
Ben keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Maloney.

Maloney gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Ben cracks Maloney with a solid left hand.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Yowis Ben dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Yowis Ben's cut.
That's time! Maloney's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Ben darts in looking for a takedown but Maloney gets double underhooks and turns Ben into the cage.
Maloney jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.

Ben scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.

Maloney bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet!
Maloney moves in looking to clinch but Ben pushes him off.

Ben shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Maloney manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Maloney is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Ben is controlling him.
Ben works over Maloney with some ground and pound from guard.
Maloney has momentary wrist control but Ben slips an elbow through the middle.
Ben wants to control from the top but Maloney keeps moving.
Maloney is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Ben lands a couple of digs.
Both fighters have adopted an aggressive gameplan on the ground!

That's one minute gone in the round.
Maloney wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Ben manages to pass to side control.
Ben is looking to take a break and control but Maloney is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Ben has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Ben working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Maloney is looking for a sweep.
Check out the look on Ben's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!

Maloney is rocked!
Maloney is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Ben asserts his dominance and retains side control.
Maloney is not content to let Ben control the position.
Maloney wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Maloney on the wrong end of some ground and pound.
Ben cracks Maloney with a big right hand but Maloney just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.

Ben lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Maloney down.
Oh Maloney is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Ben in side control here. He's dropped a big elbow there and Maloney looks hurt! Oh, he is hurt! Ben turns on the heat and pounds him out for a TKO victory! Good killer instinct there!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:27 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Yowis Ben!
