And in the blue corner, fighting out of Helsinki, with a TWGC record of 9 wins and 3 losses; Neil Nucombe! The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Frank Antenori and Jack Bonds.

Baigan tries to score a body lock takedown but Nucombe shows good agility there to stay on his feet. Baigan drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Nucombe gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Nusrat Baigan has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Neil Nucombe. Nucombe has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Baigan is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet. Baigan is trying to trip Nucombe. He has hold of a leg but Nucombe is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Baigan persists though and gets the takedown into guard. Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one. Nucombe is trying to keep Baigan in close.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Nucombe can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Baigan controls the pace. Nucombe working a defensive guard but Baigan manages to pass into side control anyway.

That's one minute gone in the round. Nucombe is looking for a sweep. Baigan tries to move to mount but Nucombe blocks the move with his legs. Nucombe wants to control but Baigan postures up.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Nucombe might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Baigan haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time. Baigan taking a breather here. Nucombe stops Baigan from passing to mount.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Nucombe is trying to escape the position but Baigan is controlling the position. Baigan tries to move to mount but Nucombe blocks the move with his legs. That's five minutes gone in the round. Baigan's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
That's six minutes gone in the round. Nucombe is looking to control Baigan's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Nucombe avoid being mounted? Baigan is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Nucombe reverses the position - he's now on top in Baigan's guard. Score +2 for sweep to guard / half guard: Baigan (5) vs (2) Nucombe Baigan is pulling down on Nucombe's head. It's preventing any offense from Nucombe, at least for the moment. Nucombe slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
That's seven minutes gone in the round. Nucombe wants to control from the top but Baigan keeps moving. Baigan pulls Nucombe in close to his closed guard and prevents Nucombe from doing any damage or advancing position. Nucombe pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Baigan is keeping the position for now.

That's nine minutes gone in the round. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Baigan manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Nucombe manages to get himself to full guard.

That's eleven minutes gone in the round. Baigan slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard. Baigan pushes down on Nucombe's leg and manages to get into half guard. Baigan trying to pass the guard but Nucombe defending well.
That's twelve minutes gone in the round. Nucombe has a hand on Baigan's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Baigan takes advantage of the position though and mounts him! Score +3 for passing guard: Baigan (10) vs (2) Nucombe Baigan looking to control and managing it successfully. Baigan continues to stall. Nucombe is in all sorts of trouble here.
That's thirteen minutes gone in the round. Baigan controlling his opponent. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Baigan prevents Nucombe from getting the reversal.
That's fourteen minutes gone in the round. Baigan tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. Baigan avoids the attempt from Nucombe to control. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Baigan takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
And that's the end of the fight! Baigan takes the fight on points by 10 to 2. Nusrat Baigan is the new lightweight champion! |
