The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way. The fight moves into the clinch position. Mendy gets a trip takedown into half guard. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Broden (0) vs (2) Mendy Mendy is working for a kimura but Broden is defending it quite comfortably.
Mendy keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action. Mendy seems to be working for a kimura but Broden defends the submission attempt. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Mendy trying to control from Broden's half guard. Broden has other ideas though and has regained full guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mendy trying to control but Broden is working from the bottom. Mendy wants to pass the guard but Broden is keeping the position. Mendy is still trying to improve position. Broden controlling Mendy's posture. Broden seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission. Mendy drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Broden dives on top into guard. Mendy has his hands on Broden's head, controlling the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Broden not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Broden looking to pass the guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Broden won't allow Mendy to sweep him here. Broden being controlled here momentarily. Broden stopping the sweep attempt from Mendy.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Mendy keeps trying to improve his position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Mendy pulls Broden in to control the position. Mendy not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Mendy looking to hit a scissor sweep but Broden is one step ahead there. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Broden's corner is telling him to maintain position.
That's five minutes gone in the round. Broden wants to control from the top but Mendy keeps moving. Mendy working a defensive guard here.
Mendy is pulling down on Broden's head. It's preventing any offense from Broden, at least for the moment.
That's six minutes gone in the round. Broden won't allow Mendy to sweep him here. A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Mendy holds on and takes a little breather. Mendy wants to hit a sweep here but Broden passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Mendy there! Score +3 for passing guard: Broden (5) vs (2) Mendy Mendy is in all sorts of trouble here.
That's seven minutes gone in the round. Broden looking to control and managing it successfully. Mendy tries to hold on but Broden pushes him away. Mendy is desperately trying to improve his position but Broden has a good base and remains in mount.
That's eight minutes gone in the round. Mendy tries to lock up and control but Broden gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Mendy is trying to avoid being dragged into an even worse position than he's already in but Broden is staying active. Broden tries to control but Mendy wriggling away. Broden takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Mendy wants to control but Broden is having none of it.
That's nine minutes gone in the round. Broden trying to control but he's not successful this time. Broden sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. Broden tries to control but Mendy wriggling away.
That's ten minutes gone in the round. Mendy is looking to improve his position but Broden isn't that keen on the idea. Mendy tries to improve his position but Broden has taken his back! Broden has a choke - it's sunk in pretty tight... Will Mendy tap? No... maybe... yes! He's tapped! Broden pushes Mendy away and gets up to celebrate with his corner!
