Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Rudi Voeller! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Carl Jones! The judges for this bout are , and .
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Jones lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook. Jones throws a right and a left that both miss. Jones works over Voeller's head and body with a nice combination. Horrible takedown by Voeller or perhaps it was just good defense by Jones which made him look bad. Voeller drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Voeller lands a couple of elbows. Voeller drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Jones manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Voeller has Jones in his guard. Voeller looking for a guillotine here but Jones defends easily.
Jones wants to control from the top but Voeller keeps moving. Voeller looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
That's one minute gone in the round. Voeller working for submissions but it's allowed Jones to get to half guard.
Voeller is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Voeller looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Jones missing with the ground and pound from half guard. Jones is keen to just control but Voeller is a slippery customer. Voeller looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Jones trying to mount his opponent but Voeller defends it. Voeller wants to get back to full guard.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Jones misses with a double jab.
Jones lands with a nice combination. Voeller backs away looking to recover. Jones chopping away at his opponent's legs.
Voeller chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Jones can pounce on him.
Voeller is breathing heavily. Jones scoring well with a low kick there.
Rudi Voeller seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Voeller takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Voeller is rocked! Jones dances in with a quick combination. Voeller is being worked over with jabs and crosses. Oooh, a right straight from Jones snaps Voeller's head back. Voeller stumbles backwards against the cage. Jones steps forward and delivers a right cross that connects with Voeller's jaw, simultaneously knocking him out and sending his mouthpiece into the crowd! There's a worthy souvenir for the fans. This one is over folks. Voeller just didn't come prepared.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:41 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Carl Jones!
