And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Shinobu Hayabusa!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Fujiwara, Yukihiro Yamamoto and Shigeki Sano.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hayabusa fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Mcpaene tries to pull guard but Hayabusa holds him up against the cage and eventually Mcpaene drops back down to his feet.

Mcpaene wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Hayabusa has him pressed against the cage.

Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Hayabusa.

That was a close second round but I would say that Joe Mcpaene will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


A head kick from Hayabusa lands but Mcpaene takes it in his stride.
Mcpaene steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Hayabusa. That one must have hurt.

Mcpaene shoots in looking for a takedown. Hayabusa tries to sprawl out of it but Mcpaene keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Hayabusa manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Both of our modern day gladiators look out of it here - an gruelling 5 rounds of action taking it's toll on them, no doubt.
It looks like Hayabusa is going to stand back up.

Mcpaene moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Mcpaene bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Hayabusa's guard.

Mcpaene thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.

Mcpaene has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Hayabusa is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Mcpaene.

Mcpaene throws an elbow to the body but it doesn't land.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Mcpaene shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Hayabusa as he avoids it easily.
Hayabusa explodes with a nice body kick and back out of range. Nice work.
Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Hayabusa. Mcpaene shrugs it off though.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Hayabusa throws a nice outside leg kick.
Hayabusa shoots for a double leg takedown but Mcpaene sprawls well. He's pushed Hayabusa's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

And that's the end of the fight!
Shinobu Hayabusa comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Hayabusa has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
