Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Sammy Volkenhause (ranked 3833 p4p, 4990 weight class) and Javier Montealdo (ranked 408 p4p, 493 weight class). Volkenhause comes to the cage accompanied by Magic Carpet Ride by Steppenwolf. Javier Montealdo has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Sammy Volkenhause's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Sammy Volkenhause!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Javier Montealdo!
The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Mauricio Rocha and Emerson Jorge.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Volkenhause misses the body punch
and Montealdo counters with a straight right hand.
Volkenhause fails with a takedown attempt.
Montealdo looks to score with a jab to the body but Volkenhause is just out of range.
Sammy Volkenhause seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Montealdo with a nice cross.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Volkenhause is pushing Montealdo up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.

Volkenhause breaks the clinch.
We've been hearing reports that Volkenhause has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.
Volkenhause uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Montealdo.
It looked like Volkenhause was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.

Volkenhause moves into the clinch.
Volkenhause doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Volkenhause breaks the clinch.
Montealdo throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

Volkenhause clinches.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Montealdo.

Volkenhause breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Volkenhause fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Montealdo sprawls well initially but Volkenhause persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's one minute gone in the round.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

Montealdo looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Volkenhause passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Montealdo!
Montealdo is looking to improve his position but Volkenhause isn't that keen on the idea.

Volkenhause working for a submission but Montealdo is keeping him at bay.
Montealdo tries to reverse the position but Volkenhause maintains control.
Volkenhause lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
Volkenhause looking to control but Montealdo is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Volkenhause controlling the position easily from mount.

Volkenhause looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
Montealdo felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Volkenhause is landing with some decent strikes but Montealdo is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Montealdo keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Volkenhause lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Volkenhause is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Montealdo can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Montealdo is desperately trying to improve his position but Volkenhause has a good base and remains in mount.

Volkenhause manages to capitalize on a mistake by Montealdo to take his back!
Volkenhause really has the hooks in deep now - there seems like no escape for Montealdo.

Volkenhause tries to keep control of the position but Montealdo is staying busy.
Montealdo is defending well here and trying to improve his position.

Montealdo won't enjoy being in this position. Volkenhause looking for the choke. Oh... he's slipped the arm under the neck - Montealdo is tapping - it's over boys! Volkenhause picks up the submission victory!
