PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Rob Bernard (ranked 3255 p4p, 2956 weight class) and Zigalow Lazarov (ranked 412 p4p, 388 weight class). Lazarov is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Smoke on the Water by Deep Purple. Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Good shot there by Bernard.
Nice takedown defense from Bernard. No joy for Lazarov on that attempt.
It looked like Bernard wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
Bernard connects with a looping right hand.
Lazarov shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Bernard defends it nicely.

Lazarov shoots in looking for a takedown but Bernard manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Lazarov's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Rob Bernard has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Zigalow Lazarov.

and Lazarov takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

Bernard tries to close the distance and clinch but Lazarov swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Lazarov drops his hands momentarily and Bernard takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Lazarov tries to score a power double leg takedown but Bernard sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Lazarov somewhat.
Bernard was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
Lazarov closes the distance and clinches up with Bernard, looking for a takedown. Lazarov pushes Bernard against the cage but Bernard circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Lazarov drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.

Lazarov is still on wobbly legs! Can Bernard finish him?
Bernard is looking for an opening here. He's unloaded a big left hand that catches Lazarov flush on the jaw and sends him tumbling to the canvas! Lazarov is out cold! Bernard holds back from landing any unnecessary shots to his unconscious opponent, as the referee reacts slowly to the situation. A brutal knockout and then some excellent sportsmanship - this guy is my new favorite fighter!

After the fight, Rob Bernard was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
In defeat, Zigalow Lazarov stepped up to the mic, saying 'Back to the aquarium '.
