PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Keenwah Granes (ranked 6186 p4p, 6333 weight class) and Joe Ou (ranked 241 p4p, 243 weight class). Ou comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Life Will Change kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Keenwah Granes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Joe Ou!
The judges for this bout are Columbo Gatti, Franklyn Lucas and Bruno Lombardi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ou darts in looking for a takedown but Granes gets double underhooks and turns Ou into the cage.
Granes goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Ou fails with an attempt to clinch.
Ou gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
enabling Granes to counter with a crisp jab.
Ou takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards.

Ou shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Ou was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Granes tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Ou presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!
Granes is bucking up trying to escape but Ou cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Poor strikes thrown by Ou there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Ou lands a heavy elbow.
Ou prevents Granes from getting the reversal.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Ou really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Granes. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Ou wants to control the pace but Granes is squirming around nicely.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Granes is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Granes blocking the ground and pound.
Granes is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Granes gets back to half guard.
Granes is refusing to be controlled, as Ou sits in half guard.
Granes makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Granes.

Granes is looking for a triangle but Ou pushes his legs off easily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Granes wants to sweep here but Ou controlling him for the moment.

Granes escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Ou gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Granes is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Ou throws a strike but Granes rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Ou keeping moving, preventing Granes from controlling successfully.
Ou is trying to control the position but Granes postures up.
We've been informed that Ou has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.
Granes content to stall in guard here.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Granes stands up over Ou, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Granes passes easily into side control. Nice work.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Keenwah Granes will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Ou shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Granes is trying to defend but Ou finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Ou wants to pass the guard but Granes is defending well.
Granes is pressing down on Ou's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Ou is posturing up here but Granes has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! Ou tries to roll out but it's too tight and Ou has to tap! Slick submission there by Granes!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:51 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Keenwah Granes!
Keenwah Granes was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
