PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Thiago Araujo (ranked 2509 p4p, 1635 weight class) and Ispa Murhapuro (ranked 92 p4p, 62 weight class). Ispa Murhapuro told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 20 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Thiago Araujo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 9 - 0, fighting out of London, Ispa Murhapuro!
The judges for this bout are Tatsuya Matsuyama, Hirohito Nitta and Yuuki Gou.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Araujo fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Murhapuro, pushing him back against the cage.

Araujo ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Araujo no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Araujo is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Araujo looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Murhapuro looking to pass the guard.
Araujo is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Araujo escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Murhapuro gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Murhapuro stands and throws Araujo's legs to the side, diving into side control.

We've been hearing good reports from Araujo's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

That was a close round but I would say that Thiago Araujo will probably get the nod.

No joy there for Murhapuro, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Araujo shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Murhapuro as he jumps to the side.

Araujo got a little sloppy there for a moment and Murhapuro has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Araujo has managed to get both his arms back between Murhapuro's legs - danger averted.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Thiago Araujo.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Araujo, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
