Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jimmy Sparks! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Kimbo Slice! The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Alexandre Firmino and Daniel Cesar.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Sparks shoots in but Slice avoids the takedown attempt easily. Sparks tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Slice swivels and escapes. Sparks blocks a head kick by Slice.
Sparks looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jimmy Sparks. That's going to take a lot out of him. Slice closes the distance and clinches up with Sparks, looking for a takedown. Slice pushes Sparks against the cage but Sparks circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Sparks looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. Sparks looking to pass the half guard. Not this time. Slice tries to kick Sparks off but Sparks keeps his base steady and stays in half guard. Sparks wants to take a breather but Slice is having none of it. Slice wants to control but Sparks is keeping busy and won't allow it. Slice really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Sparks. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Slice lands one or two decent shots to the body here. Although from his own half guard, he's not going to be causing too much damage.
That's one minute gone in the round. Slice lands with a few short shots to the body. Slice is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Slice wants to get back to his feet. Sparks working the head and body with strikes. Sparks wants to control but Slice is keeping him busy. Sparks winds up and cracks Slice with a swinging punch to the side of the head. Slice avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Sparks. Slice wants to get back to his feet. Nice strikes from Sparks there. Slice has hold of Sparks's hands but Sparks slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow. Slice is staying active underneath Sparks, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Slice wants to get back to his feet.
Slice looks gassed! Sparks lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears. Sparks stalling.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Sparks is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position. Sparks slows the pace down in half guard. Sparks takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists. Slice is trying to maintain the position but Sparks is very close to passing his half guard. Sparks seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Slice throws a strike from the bottom that misses.

Slice is staying active underneath Sparks, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Sparks working the head and body with strikes. Sparks takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists. Sparks passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Slice! A nice elbow there by Sparks. Slice throwing hammer fists to the chest of Sparks. What's that going to do exactly? Sparks in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.
Sparks working from mount. He moves in close and looks like he might be going for an arm triangle... He's hopped off to the side and he's transitioned into an Anaconda choke. Slice turning a nasty shade of purple. He's refusing to tap but he's gone! He's out! The ref rips Sparks off and cradles Slice's limp body as Sparks celebrates with his corner.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Anaconda Choke). Jimmy Sparks!
