PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Charlie Chan (ranked 1046 p4p, 2648 weight class) and Wesley Poker (ranked 150 p4p, 361 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Charlie Chan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Wesley Poker!
The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, Summer Carpenter and Darius Henderson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Poker is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
It looked like Chan wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
Chan moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.

Chan instigates a clinch.
Poker tries to break free but Chan pushes him back against the cage.

Chan escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Poker lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Chan fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Poker looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Chan circles away from the clinch attempt.
Poker misses with an uppercut. Chan saw that one coming.
Poker throws a big shot that misses.
Poker scores with a nice right hand.
Chan slips a jab and a cross from Poker.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Poker wants to clinch.
Chan dives in for a single leg takedown but Poker sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

Chan manages to break the clinch.
Chan slaps away a takedown attempt from Poker, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Chan dodges the punch combination from Poker.

We've been told by Chan's head coaches at Doom's Gym that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Poker shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Poker stuns Chan with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.

enabling Poker to counter with a crisp jab.

Poker missing with a left hand there. Chan was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.

Poker tries to land a front kick but Chan steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.

Chan ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Chan swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.

Chan takes the fight into the clinch.

Chan's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Chan closes this distance looking for a takedown but Poker circles away.

Poker gets tackled into the cage by Chan. Chan maintains the clinch.
Chan swings away with an uppercut that misses.

Poker breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Chan has closed the distance and engaged Poker in a clinch.
Poker dodges an elbow strike from Chan.
Chan throws an elbow but it misses.
Poker has had enough of the clinch but Chan keeps him there for the moment.
Chan slowing the pace effectively.

Chan pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Poker throws a series of punches but Chan moves out of range.

Poker looks like he wants to counter punch here.
Chan catches Poker with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!

Chan ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Poker gets tackled into the cage by Chan. Chan maintains the clinch.
Chan has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Poker after a bit of a struggle.
Poker wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Chan breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Poker.
Chan shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Poker as he jumps to the side.
Poker walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Chan checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.
Poker has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Chan.
Poker throws a right and a left that both miss.
Poker lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.
Chan scores with a head kick. Poker tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time.
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Chan works Poker's body with a nice hook.
Chan digs a good body shot into Poker's ribs.

Chan fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Poker to the ground. Chan is now in Poker's guard.
Chan postures up in Poker's guard and throws a big left but Poker blocks it.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Charlie Chan dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Chan clinches.
Chan lands a nice shot to the body.

Chan pulls guard effortlessly.
Poker pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Chan is keeping the position for now.
Chan trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Poker wants to control from the top but Chan keeps moving.

Chan escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Poker gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Chan wants to hit a sweep here but Poker passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Chan there!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Poker looking to control but Chan is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

Chan sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

Chan manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Poker keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage.

Wesley Poker is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Poker swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
letting Chan counter with a right hand.
Nice sprawl there from Poker as Chan shoots in.
Chan clobbers Poker with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Chan tries to score a power double leg takedown but Poker sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Chan somewhat.

Poker takes a shot to the head.

Chan manages to break the clinch.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Danga de danga de dang - Poker scores with a four punch combination!

Poker lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Chan circles away quickly and effectively.

Poker drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Chan throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
Chan doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.

Chan has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Poker has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.

Charlie Chan seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Poker tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Chan defends well and Poker ends up having to push Chan into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Chan closes the distance and clinches up with Poker, looking for a takedown. Chan pushes Poker against the cage but Poker circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Poker is sitting in close to Chan's body. Chan has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! Poker is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, Poker is tapping! That was a very nice submission by Chan.
