Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Matt Lopez (ranked 5085 p4p, 4812 weight class) and Jethro Willis (ranked 554 p4p, 538 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Matt Lopez! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Jethro Willis! The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, Chris Edwards and Sam Margolis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Willis closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage. Lopez is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage. Willis prevents Lopez from breaking the clinch. Lopez breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Willis lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Willis. Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Lopez lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Willis has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Willis and we're back underway with a touch of gloves. Willis ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Lopez moves away. Lopez finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Willis shoots in looking for a takedown but Lopez manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Willis's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. Willis fails with the takedown and Willis takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Willis looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Lopez is fending him off so far but Willis persists. Nope, Lopez circles away and we're back to standing. Matt Lopez has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jethro Willis. Lopez slaps away a takedown attempt from Willis, before circling back to the center of the mat. Lopez throws a leg kick but Willis checks it. Willis tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away. Willis tries for a takedown but Lopez circles away easily and Lopez counters with a slapping leg kick.
That's one minute gone in the round. Willis has closed the distance and engaged Lopez in a clinch.
Lopez's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Lopez stuffs the takedown attempt from Willis. Willis gets slowly back to his feet. Willis shoots in and gets a takedown into Lopez's guard. Willis stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Lopez swivels though and keeps the full guard. Willis trying to control but Lopez is working from the bottom. Willis looking to pass the guard. Willis slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Willis trying to control the action but Lopez is working from the bottom. Willis tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Willis has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Willis throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Lopez works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure. Willis passes to side control.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Willis taking a breather here. Lopez prevents Willis from moving into mount. Willis takes a little break here. Lopez wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well. Willis advances to full mount. Willis is looking to work his way around to Lopez's back. He needs to be careful though, as he's in danger of losing this dominant position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Willis is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Lopez can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Lopez knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Willis on the ground. Lopez is really trying hard to get back to his feet.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. A nice elbow there by Willis.
Lopez is rocked! Lopez in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head. Oh Lopez is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! Willis wants to control the pace but Lopez is squirming around nicely. Lopez seems to have got his legs back now. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Willis goes for an armbar but Lopez turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Lopez. Willis wants to sweep here but Lopez controlling him for the moment. Lopez wants to stand but Willis has a closed guard, so he can't escape. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Jethro Willis dominated that round. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. Willis fails with a takedown attempt. Willis wants to clinch and Lopez counters with a thumping low kick. Willis misses with a takedown and Lopez counters with an inside leg kick. Willis fails with the takedown. Lopez fires out a quick counter leg kick but Willis just manages to avoid it. Matt Lopez has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jethro Willis. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Willis shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Lopez counters with a lovely straight right hand! Willis avoids a low kick by using good footwork. Willis fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Lopez avoids it really well and circles away.
That's one minute gone in the round. Willis pushes Lopez up against the cage in a clinch. Lopez pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Willis drives through with a takedown into guard. Willis stands up over Lopez, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head. Lopez is working an open guard so Willis takes the opportunity to get back to his feet. Willis gets a double leg takedown into Lopez's guard. Lopez has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Willis is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Willis tries to pull guard but Lopez forces him back to his feet, against the cage. Willis lands with a right to the head. Willis jumps guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Lopez wants to stand but Willis is controlling his posture from full guard. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Willis can do anything to dispel that myth. Willis throws his legs up looking for a submission but Lopez uses it to pass to side control.
Jethro Willis has got the better of the ground game so far. Willis is looking to reverse the position. Willis is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Willis holding on. Lopez wants to stand but Willis is controlling his arm.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Willis is looking for a sweep. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Willis is trying to control Lopez's posture but Lopez avoids it. Willis tries to buck Lopez off but Lopez is having none of it. Willis is trying to control Lopez's posture but Lopez avoids it. Willis sneaks back into half guard. Willis is positioning himself well to prevent Lopez advancing to mount.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Willis manages to get to full guard.
Willis thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage. Willis is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet. Willis shoots in for a double leg but Lopez sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Lopez avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Lopez half committed to a counter leg kick. Good work by Willis as he checks the leg kick. Willis with a lazy takedown attempt and Lopez counters with an inside leg kick. Willis doesn't succeed with the takedown and Lopez counters with a thumping low kick. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Matt Lopez dominated that second round. That's time! Lopez's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards. Willis shoots in looking for a takedown but Lopez manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Willis's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. Willis shoots and misses and Lopez counters with a nice uppercut. Willis shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Lopez pinned against the cage. Lopez gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Matt Lopez has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jethro Willis. Lopez scores with a leg kick.
Jethro Willis seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Willis closes the distance but Lopez moves to the side and Lopez finishes the little exchange by landing a big kick to the body. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Willis tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Lopez defends well and Willis ends up having to push Lopez into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch. Willis takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Willis looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Lopez! Willis is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Lopez is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
That's one minute gone in the round. You can see the frustration on Lopez's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Willis decides to stand up, so the ref orders Lopez to his feet. Willis has his takedown stuffed and Lopez counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. Lopez leaves Willis with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Lopez connects with a leg kick. Matt Lopez is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Lopez feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Williss jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist! Lopez fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Willis checks it well. Willis shoots and misses and Lopez counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Willis is lucky that one didn't land flush. Willis tries for a takedown but Lopez circles away easily and Lopez connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. Lopez stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Lopez wants it to stay on the feet. Lopez appeared to be looking to counter that last move with a leg kick. Lopez lands a brutal head kick. Willis looks out on his feet and Lopez throws more strikes until the ref is forced to stop the fight!
