Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Cthulhu Mythos (ranked 5364 p4p, 24373 weight class) and Martins Podkalns (ranked 518 p4p, 614 weight class). Cthulhu Mythos has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Cthulhu Mythos!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Martins Podkalns!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Bishop, Richard Clark and Chris Edwards.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Podkalns tries to clinch up.
Mythos went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.

Podkalns closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Podkalns lands in his opponent's guard.

Mythos looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Mythos is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Mythos has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Podkalns can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Podkalns really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Mythos. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Podkalns wants to control from the top but Mythos keeps moving.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Podkalns might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Mythos haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Mythos is working hard here to advance position.
Mythos is in a tricky position. We've heard reports from his gym mates at Cope's Gym that he's been drilling escapes, so let's see if he can get back to his feet.
Mythos keeping moving, preventing Podkalns from controlling successfully.
Mythos seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Mythos looking to control.
Podkalns wants to control from the top but Mythos keeps moving.
Podkalns must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Mythos is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.


Mythos is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Mythos wants to take a breather but Podkalns is having none of it.

Podkalns tries to kick Mythos off but Mythos keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Mythos looks to score some points with some ground and pound.

Mythos is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Podkalns is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!
