PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ryan Gordon (ranked 1444 p4p, 1237 weight class) and Liger Justin (ranked 203 p4p, 172 weight class). Liger Justin is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Ryan Gordon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Liger Justin!
The judges for this bout are Paul Aken, Patrick Alders and Saam Ante.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Horrible takedown attempt by Gordon or perhaps it was just good defense by Justin, which made it look bad.
Justin just misses with a punch to the body.
Nice defenses there by Gordon.
Gordon has a takedown stuffed.
Gordon shoots in but no luck this time.
Justin is looking for the big counter here.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ryan Gordon. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Gordon shoots in looking for a takedown. Justin tries to sprawl out of it but Gordon keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Justin manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Justin closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Gordon quickly recovers to half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Gordon tries to get to full guard but Justin has control of the leg.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

It looks like Justin might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Justin throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Gordon works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Justin wants to control from the top but Gordon keeps moving.
Gordon is trying to keep Justin in close.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
Gordon gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Justin.
Justin looks to land a right hand but Gordon moved out of range.
Justin looks for a takedown but Gordon sprawls well.

Gordon shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Justin manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Gordon stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Justin swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Justin has found himself in a tricky position here. He's been working his transitions in training so let's see if he can work his way out of it.

We've been hearing good reports from Gordon's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
Justin has his hands clasped together around Gordon's back. He's all about the action.

Gordon wants to work for an arm triangle but Justin is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Liger Justin will probably get the nod.
That's time! Gordon's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Justin throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Gordon was covering up waiting for the punch and Justin finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Gordon pulls Justin in close to his closed guard and prevents Justin from doing any damage or advancing position.
Justin sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Justin has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Gordon shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Justin as he avoids it easily.
Justin drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Gordon defends it well.
Justin throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Gordon's waist but Gordon gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Justin off to one side.

Gordon goes for a double leg but Justin avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Justin continues to drive forward.

Gordon is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

A short body shot lands from Justin as the two fighters clinch.

Justin breaks from the clinch.
Gordon misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Justin keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Gordon feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Justin is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Justin has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Gordon has passed into side control.
Ryan Gordon overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Gordon has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Justin is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Gordon yanks on the arm and Justin is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Gordon.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:30 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Ryan Gordon!
A relieved looking Ryan Gordon thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
