Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Kevin Brockington (ranked 3130 p4p, 3770 weight class) and Alex Jones (ranked 398 p4p, 458 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 10 - 4 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Kevin Brockington! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Alex Jones! The judges for this bout are Paulsen Ambrosius, Albert Achterberg and Radbod Blank.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Jones clinches up against the cage. Jones manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back. Brockington has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Jones is proving hard to escape from. Brockington stands and throws Jones's legs to the side, diving into side control. Jones tries to bench press Brockington off him but Brockington keeps the position. Brockington is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position. Brockington wants to stand but Jones has his arm trapped. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Jones sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Jones wants to improve his position but Brockington is controlling well.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Jones can do anything to dispel that myth. Jones has Brockington pulled in close to control his posture.

That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Jones is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Brockington is working for a kimura but Jones is defending it quite comfortably.
Brockington is looking to take a break and control but Jones is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Brockington missing with the ground and pound from half guard. Jones is looking to improve his position.

Jones tries to land a sweep but no joy. Brockington slips nicely into half guard. Brockington is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Jones is just riding it out for now. Brockington eventually gives up the hold.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. The fighters are battling for position here. Jones manages to regain full guard. Nice work. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Brockington is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Brockington slips effortlessly into side control - very nice. Jones tries to improve position but can't. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Jones avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Brockington. You can see the frustration on Jones's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Jones tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Brockington wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Kevin Brockington dominated that round. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. Brockington darts in looking for a takedown but Jones gets double underhooks and turns Brockington into the cage. Brockington sets himself, and Jones steps forward looking for the clinch! Brockington avoids it this time. Jones breaks the clinch.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Brockington. Jones feints the counter takedown. Brockington is looking light on his feet compared to last time was saw him fight. Jones forces Brockington back against the cage and clinches. Jones has Brockington pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Jones pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Brockington tumbling to the mat - Jones dives into Brockington's guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Jones trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Brockington has momentary wrist control but Jones slips an elbow through the middle. Jones lands a couple of decent looking shots.

Jones throws a strike but Brockington rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top. Brockington postures up.
Brockington wants to control from the top but Jones keeps moving. Brockington trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Brockington trying to control the position from guard on top but Jones is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Brockington working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound. Brockington is fighting to break Jones's control of his arms but Jones is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment. Brockington sitting in guard here, content to control. Brockington stands and steps away. Jones gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Jones decides to pull guard. Brockington passes into half guard. Jones wants to get back to full guard but Brockington has mounted him! Jones wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Brockington.
Jones blocking the ground and pound. Jones has given up his back - I don’t know if this is a deliberate ploy to try and escape or if he is just struggling down there.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Brockington is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Jones knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Jones for a finish.

That was a close second round but I would say that Kevin Brockington will probably get the nod. That's time! Brockington's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. Kevin Brockington overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Brockington is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Jones defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined. Jones manages to reverse the position and now he's in Brockington's guard. Nice work there by Jones.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Jones makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard. Jones postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head. Brockington looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Jones cracks Brockington with a solid left hand. Jones working some strikes from top position. Brockington can't keep his opponent in guard - Jones advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount. Jones thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Brockington's head. The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Jones lands a nice short elbow. Jones working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Jones missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. Jones throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Kevin Brockington is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Jones drops an elbow to the side of Brockington's head.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Kevin Brockington. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Brockington, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent.
